This role is for a CDL-A Driver position at Performance Foodservice, where drivers are considered vital members of the supply chain ensuring that food and related products reach customers on time and in perfect condition. The job offers competitive compensation at $37.50 per hour with weekly paychecks. The work schedule primarily spans Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays, beginning the dispatch shift early in the morning from 3 AM to 5 AM.

The CDL-A Driver is responsible for operating tractor trailers or straight trucks across intrastate and interstate routes, including local deliveries, over-the-road trips, shuttle runs, and overnight routes. Key duties include conducting thorough safety inspections of vehicles, adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and driving safely to deliver food products efficiently. The position demands excellent communication skills to maintain professional interactions with customers, vendors, and coworkers, reinforcing the company’s reputation as a trustworthy service provider.

Drivers perform a range of critical tasks such as loading and unloading freight, securing cargo, verifying delivery accuracy, and documenting all shipments through required paperwork. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 12 months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Meet all state licensing or certification requirements
  • Clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or maintain valid DOT health card
  • Physically able to lift and move freight weighing between 10 to 90 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent
  • 12+ months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A
  • Must be 21 or older
  • Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test
  • Pass road test
  • Attains or has valid current DOT Health Card or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight

Job Duties

  • Performs all required safety checks including pre and post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
  • Inspects tractor/truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and take appropriate action as needed
  • Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
  • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Immediately reports all safety hazards
  • Inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Performs count check of items and check customer invoices of products that have been loaded
  • Checks and completes in an accurate and legible fashion all required paperwork associated with freight
  • Moves tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unloads products from the trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas
  • Performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
  • Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures
  • Collects money where required
  • Loads customer returns on to trailer and secures trailer doors
  • Ensures that tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or always secured
  • Unloads damaged goods and customer returns and brings to the driver check-in and complete necessary paperwork
  • Unloads all equipment, materials and removes trash from trailers as required
  • Completes daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keeps trailers clear and clean
  • At the end of the shift secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
