Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline food distributor serving a diverse range of customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on building strong partnerships with its clients by offering comprehensive support beyond just food delivery. Their team of knowledgeable sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts collaborate to provide tailored advice on improving operations, menu development, product selections, and effective operational strategies. This commitment to excellence allows Performance Foodservice to help independent restaurant owners grow and succeed while playing a vital role in America's food supply chain.
PFG places high importance on creating a safe, inclusive, and rewarding workplace environment for its employees. The company offers a variety of competitive pay and benefits options starting from $85,000 up to $110,000 per year, alongside growth opportunities that recognize the essential nature of their work. Benefits include day one health and wellness coverage, employee stock purchase plans, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and much more. This extensive support fosters a culture of rewards, recognition, and respect that empowers employees to thrive while delivering superior service to customers.
The CDL-A Driver position with Performance Foodservice is critical to sustaining the smooth operation of food distribution across local, intrastate, and interstate routes. The role involves driving tractor trailers or straight trucks during night dispatch shifts from 10 pm to 4 am, Sunday through Thursday, to deliver and unload food and food-related products. Drivers not only ensure timely and safe deliveries but also represent the face of the company, establishing lasting relationships with customers by providing professional and courteous service. The role demands strict adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, company safety policies, and DOT health requirements to maintain optimal safety standards.
Key responsibilities include conducting thorough safety inspections of vehicles and trailers before and after trips, reporting safety concerns or required repairs, managing accurate and legible paperwork for freight, ensuring freight is loaded, secured, and unloaded correctly, and verifying deliveries with customers, collecting payments when necessary. Drivers are expected to collaborate effectively as part of a team, supporting the company’s broader mission to reliably supply food products while maintaining operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
In addition to driving, the CDL-A Driver performs physical tasks such as hand-lifting products often weighing between 10 to 35 pounds, with some freight possibly reaching up to 60 to 90 pounds, and using equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates to move items safely. The role also includes maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in trailers, trucks, and loading dock areas, securing all equipment and paperwork at the end of shifts, and continually supporting other duties as assigned.
Performance Foodservice is committed to equal employment opportunity and ensures that all applicants and employees receive fair treatment in hiring and employment practices without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, marital status, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or other protected characteristics as governed by applicable laws. This commitment reflects the company’s dedication to fostering a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace environment while delivering top-quality food distribution services nationwide.
