The offered position is for a CDL-A Driver, a critical role in keeping the national food supply chain running smoothly. This full-time role features a competitive salary range from $85,000 to $100,000 annually, with a daily minimum pay of $270. Employees are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus (terms apply) and performance-based bonuses. Work schedules are Monday through Friday with rotating Saturdays, starting early with dispatch at 3:00 a.m. The CDL-A Driver will operate tractor trailers or straight trucks on various routes including local, interstate, over-the-road, shuttle, and overnight deliveries, ensuring timely and safe delivery of food products. The driver acts as a frontline representative of Cheney Brothers, impacting the company’s reputation through professional interactions and reliability.
This role demands punctuality, safety consciousness, and strong communication skills as the driver coordinates with customers, vendors, and co-workers. Drivers will conduct thorough safety inspections in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, handle freight loading and unloading with care, maintain accurate paperwork, and manage collections where applicable. The CDL-A Driver must be physically capable of lifting and maneuvering freight up to 90 pounds with the assistance of appropriate equipment. Additionally, the role includes housekeeping duties for the vehicle and trailer, ensuring all equipment is properly secured at shift-end. Job Requirements
- 12+ months commercial driving experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid CDL-A license
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Compliance with all relevant state licensing and certification requirements
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report for the past three years
- Ability to pass post offer drug screening and criminal background check
- Successful completion of road test
- Current or obtainable DOT Health Card
- Physical ability to hand-lift and operate equipment for moving product cases and freight
- Ability to work Monday to Friday with rotating Saturdays
- Willingness to dispatch at 3:00 a.m. and work early morning to shift completion
Job Qualifications
- 12+ months commercial driving experience
- High School Diploma/GED
- Valid CDL-A
- Must be 21+ years of age
- Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years
- Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
- Pass road test
- Attains or has valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
- Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift
- Product generally ranges from between 10-35 pounds and up to between approximately 60 and 90 pounds, depending on the location
Job Duties
- Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner
- Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company
- Performs all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
- Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
- Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
- Immediately reports all safety hazards and inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
- Performs count check of items and checks customer invoices of products that have been loaded
- Checks and completes in an accurate and legible fashion all required paperwork associated with freight
- Moves tractor to the loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed
- Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
- Unloads products from the trailer, transports items into designated customer storage areas
- Performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
- Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures
- Collects money (cash or checks) where required
- Loads customer returns onto trailer and secures trailer doors
- Ensures that tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or always secured
- Unloads damaged goods and customer returns and bring to the driver check-in and completes necessary paperwork
- Unloads all equipment, materials and removes trash from trailers as required
- Completes daily record of hours of service and enters in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
- Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keeps trailers clear and clean as required
- At the end of the shift secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork
- Performs other related duties as assigned
