The role of CDL-A Driver at Performance Foodservice is an integral position responsible for transporting food and related products safely and efficiently. With an average salary of $90,000 per year and a $10,000 sign-on bonus, this full-time role is structured with a Monday to Friday early morning start schedule. The CDL-A Driver operates tractor trailers or straight trucks on local, intrastate, and interstate routes including over-the-road, shuttle, and drive and drop routes. Responsibilities include timely delivery and unloading of goods, conducting safety inspections in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and maintaining accurate records of freight and delivery activities.
In addition to driving responsibilities, the CDL-A Driver serves as a key representative and face of the company, building lasting relationships through professional interaction with customers, vendors, and co-workers. Drivers are expected to uphold safety and company policies rigorously, perform load and freight inspections, and manage delivery paperwork meticulously. Physical demands include hand-lifting and using equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates to move product cases weighing from 10 to approximately 90 pounds, varying by location.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- valid CDL-A license
- 12 or more months commercial driving experience
- must be at least 21 years old
- meet state licensing or certification requirements where applicable
- clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
- able to pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
- able to pass road test
- holds or can obtain valid DOT health card
- able to hand-lift and use equipment to move product cases weighing 10 to 90 pounds
- able to comply with DOT regulations and safety standards
- reliable and punctual
- strong communication skills
- physical stamina for lifting and loading tasks
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED
- 12+ months commercial driving experience
- valid CDL-A
- must be 21+ years of age
- meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable)
- clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
- pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
- pass road test
- attains or has valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
- able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift
- product generally ranges from between 10-35 pounds and up to between approximately 60 and 90 pounds, depending on the location
Job Duties
- Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner
- Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company
- Performs all required safety checks (i.e., pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
- Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
- Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
- Performs count check of items and check customer invoices of products that have been loaded
- Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
- Unloads products from the trailer, transports items into designated customer storage areas
