Job Description
AmeriGas is the nation’s premier propane company, established in 1959 and recognized as the largest distributor of propane in the United States. Serving over 1.5 million residential, commercial, industrial, and motor fuel propane customers nationwide, AmeriGas operates through a dedicated network of more than 6,500 professionals. With over 1 billion gallons of propane delivered annually from more than 1,800 distribution points across the country, the company has built a reputation for reliable energy delivery and customer service. AmeriGas prides itself on safety, professionalism, and community focus while offering career opportunities that foster individual growth and industry-leading benefits.
The role of Transport Driver at AmeriGas offers a dynamic and rewarding career path for safety-minded, customer-focused individuals passionate about driving and logistics. As a Transport Driver, you will be tasked with operating a large tanker truck with an 11,400-gallon capacity to transport propane from designated supply points such as refineries, pipeline terminals, or storage facilities to various AmeriGas locations. This role involves making multiple daily pick-ups and deliveries, driving approximately 500 miles and working up to 14 hours a day, including time spent driving and waiting during loading or unloading processes.
The Transport Driver's responsibilities extend beyond driving to include the safe and efficient handling of propane through proper connection to terminal hoses, performing rigorous twice-daily truck inspections, and occasional climbing of ladders to check tank gauges. This position requires a keen focus on safety and compliance due to the nature of the hazardous materials handled. AmeriGas supports its drivers with competitive pay, a $5,000 sign-on bonus, ample paid time off with 17 PTO days plus 7 paid holidays, and ongoing safety incentives. Drivers typically enjoy 2 to 3 days off each week, uniforms provided, and opportunities for career advancement through annual performance reviews.
This position demands experienced drivers possessing at least 3 years of tractor and trailer experience with a minimum of 200,000 miles driven, tanker endorsement, hazmat certification, and eligibility for a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC). Drivers must also maintain an excellent safety record with no accidents in the last 3 years and no more than one moving violation within the past 2 years. AmeriGas is committed to diversity, inclusion, and maintaining a drug-free workplace which includes pre-employment drug screening and ongoing substance abuse policies.
Compensation for this position ranges from $0.5838 to $0.5938 per mile with a flat on-duty non-driving hourly rate ranging from $24.36 to $25.36. Additional performance-based bonuses or commissions may be awarded based on specific positions. AmeriGas also offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, retirement plans such as 401(k) with company match, paid parental and military leave, vacation, and other employee wellness and safety programs. Working at AmeriGas means joining a storied industry leader with a commitment to safety, customer satisfaction, and personal career growth.
