Job Description
Second Harvest is a prominent food bank organization dedicated to fighting hunger and promoting food security within southwestern Wisconsin. Established in 1986, it serves a broad community across 16 counties, providing access to nutritious and culturally meaningful food to individuals and families in need. Second Harvest’s mission is to end hunger by acquiring, storing, and distributing food efficiently and responsibly. They emphasize working collaboratively with community partners, agencies, and donors to maximize the impact of their efforts. The organization operates with core values of integrity, trust, humility, inclusion, equity, and innovation while maintaining a clear vision that everyone in their community should have enough nutritious food to thrive.
The role of CDL Driver at Second Harvest is pivotal to the organization’s day-to-day operations, focused on the safe and timely transportation of food supplies essential to the mission. As a CDL Driver, the individual will be the first point of contact representing the face and values of Second Harvest to partner agencies and donors. This role involves operating trucks safely to collect and deliver donated foods, maintaining accurate records, and supporting operational functions. The CDL Driver will also collaborate closely with volunteers and the operations team to ensure food reaches the programs effectively. Dedicated to adhering to safety policies and reporting vehicle concerns, the driver maintains the logistics flow critical to community support against hunger.
This position is hourly, with a salary range of $23.27 to $27.88, reflecting the importance of reliable and skilled drivers in this impactful organization. While the CDL Driver works primarily under warehouse conditions, including cold environments like freezers and coolers, the role demands physical strength, attentiveness, and professional conduct in every interaction. The work environment is moderately noisy and requires regular use of warehouse equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks. The position also holds an essential service status—meaning during declared emergencies, the CDL Driver could be called on to perform urgent duties beyond standard responsibilities.
Overall, the CDL Driver position offers meaningful work at a dedicated nonprofit where employees actively contribute to ending hunger. This employment opportunity is an invitation to individuals who are safety-conscious, community-minded, and eager to support a vital cause. The organization supports its team with comprehensive health and wellness benefits as well as a collaborative culture embracing ongoing learning and safety compliance. Through this role, drivers play a key part in ensuring that Second Harvest fulfills its vision and mission to provide equitable food access relentlessly across the region.
