Job Description

US Foods is one of the largest foodservice distributors in the United States, renowned for its comprehensive product offerings and its commitment to excellence in customer service. The company prides itself on its dynamic culture, history of promoting from within, and robust training programs designed to foster growth and continuous improvement among its employees. As a leader in the foodservice industry, US Foods serves a wide range of customers including restaurants, healthcare facilities, hospitality businesses, and educational institutions. With a solid foundation built on collaboration, innovation, and reliability, US Foods is dedicated to helping customers succeed while supporting its associates to build meaningful careers. The organization values integrity and teamwork, making it a fulfilling workplace for individuals seeking stability and advancement in the logistics and delivery sector.

The role of a Yard Jockey Driver at US Foods is a pivotal position responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient movement of trailers and equipment within the yard. This role offers an hourly wage typically starting around $23.89 and usually follows a Monday through Friday schedule, beginning at 4:30 pm until the end of the shift. Yard Jockey Drivers play a crucial role in the daily operations by communicating closely with dispatchers and routers, maintaining the correct coupling of trucks and trailers, staging trailers for shuttle drivers, and coordinating with warehouse supervisors to facilitate the timely loading and unloading of shipments. They are also responsible for working alongside mechanics to keep all equipment in optimal condition for the next day’s deliveries.

In addition to the operational responsibilities, this role demands physical endurance, including the ability to lift and handle products weighing from 20 to over 80 pounds and the capability to work in various weather conditions. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid CDL Class A license with appropriate endorsements and DOT qualifications. Six months of commercial driving experience and the ability to operate a manual transmission (preferred but may be required in some locations) are also important. The role requires strong communication skills in English for understanding highway signs, responding to inquiries, and accurately completing necessary paperwork.

US Foods emphasizes the importance of safety and compliance, requiring all drivers to register with the FMCSA Clearinghouse, a federal database that monitors adherence to drug and alcohol program regulations for CDL holders. Besides competitive compensation, this role includes access to a comprehensive benefits package featuring health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and additional employee benefits. Overall, the Yard Jockey Driver position at US Foods represents an excellent career opportunity for motivated individuals looking to thrive in the logistics and foodservice distribution industry while benefiting from career development support and a positive work environment.
