The role of Shuttle Driver within Performance Foodservice is vital to the efficient operation of the company’s supply chain. Shuttle Drivers play an essential role in ensuring the smooth transportation of goods by moving empty trailers to warehouse locations and delivering full trailers to shuttle yards or domiciles. Operating on both intrastate and interstate routes, these drivers utilize various vehicle types including tandem trailers, tractor trailers, and straight trucks. The role demands strict adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards to deliver all products safely and on schedule.

Beyond transportation, Shuttle Drivers serve as the public face of the company, interacting professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers to foster strong working relationships. This position requires not only driving expertise but also the ability to perform safety inspections, handle paperwork diligently, and conduct loading and unloading duties to maintain efficient operations. Job Requirements

  • Valid CDL A with Doubles Endorsement
  • Minimum twelve months commercial driving experience
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Clean driving record for past three years
  • Ability to work Sunday through Thursday night shifts
  • Valid DOT Health Card or ability to obtain one
  • Pass post-offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Ability to lift and handle freight weighing up to 90 pounds
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Meet all state licensing and certification requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Twelve months commercial driving experience
  • High school diploma or GED or state approved equivalent
  • Internal candidates must be in good standing
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid CDL A license with Doubles Endorsement
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years
  • Willingness to work third shift schedule Sunday-Thursday nights
  • Ability to pass post-offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Ability to pass road test
  • Valid current DOT Health Card or ability to secure one
  • Ability to hand-lift and operate equipment to move freight weighing between 10 and 90 pounds

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre and post-trip inspections of tractor, truck, and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • Report all safety issues and required repairs
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Inspect trailers for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Ensure all required route paperwork is with tractor trailer load and available upon dispatch
  • Drive and deliver trailers according to predetermined route schedules
  • Perform hook and unhook procedures per safety guidelines
  • Park and store tractor trailers in designated areas
  • Ensure all equipment and freight are appropriately locked and secured
  • Collect and secure damaged goods and customer returns in empty trailers and complete necessary paperwork
  • Unload all equipment and materials and remove trash from trailers as required
  • Complete daily record of hours of service and enter logs in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Perform general housekeeping duties to keep tractor and trailer areas clean
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
