The Shuttle Driver position at Performance Foodservice is a crucial role within the company’s operational framework. This role involves transporting empty trailers to operating company warehouse locations and delivering full trailers back to domicile or shuttle yard locations. These driving routes include both intrastate and interstate travel, with a focus on safety, timeliness, and adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Shuttle Drivers play a pivotal role in logistics by ensuring that trailers and freight, consisting of various food and foodservice products, are securely handled and transported efficiently. The driver also acts as a representative of the company, maintaining professional communication with customers, vendors, and coworkers, which helps in building lasting relationships and contributing to the positive reputation of Performance Foodservice.
Scheduled primarily from Sunday night through Thursday night with dispatch times between 3 to 5 pm, this role offers a good balance by ensuring local drivers are home every day. The position offers an average annual salary range of $80,000 to $85,000, along with medical benefits starting from day one, emphasizing the company’s commitment to employee health and wellbeing. Shuttle Drivers are responsible for performing all necessary safety checks on tractors, trailers, and loads, and must comply meticulously with all DOT rules and company safety policies. Drivers maintain detailed records of hours of service, adhere to federal and state requirements, and carry out general housekeeping duties related to their equipment and workspace. Job Requirements
- Valid CDL A with Doubles Endorsement
- Minimum 12 months commercial driving experience
- High school diploma or GED or state approved equivalent
- Must be 21 years of age
- Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report for past 3 years
- Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
- Pass road test
- Valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
- Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift
- Work required 3rd shift schedule, Sunday-Thursday nights
- Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills
Job Qualifications

- Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable

- Work required 3rd shift schedule, Sunday-Thursday nights schedules may vary
- Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
- Pass road test
- Valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
- Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift
- Product generally ranges from between 10-35 pounds and up to between approximately 60 and 90 pounds, depending on the location
Job Duties
- Perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
- Report all safety issues and/or repairs required
- Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
- Immediately report all safety hazards
- Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
- Ensure all required route paperwork is with tractor trailer load and available to driver upon dispatch
- Drive and deliver trailers according to predetermined route schedule
- Perform hook/unhook procedures per safety guidelines
- Park and store tractor trailers in designated areas
- Ensure all equipment and freight are appropriately locked and/or always secured
- Collect and secure damaged goods and customer returns in empty trailer to bring back to driver check-in at base facility and complete necessary paperwork
- Unload all equipment, materials and remove trash from trailers as required
- Complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
- Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean as required
- Perform other related duties as assigned
