Job Description
Vistar is a leading distributor of candy, snacks, and beverages in the United States, operating with over 25 distribution centers nationwide. With a strong reputation for innovation, customer satisfaction, and a collaborative company culture, Vistar supplies a wide range of products—from popular popcorn to nutritious meal replacements—helping communities and businesses thrive across the country. The company places high value on teamwork, integrity, and community engagement, fostering a rewarding and inclusive workplace where employees are respected and recognized for their contributions. Vistar is committed to equal employment opportunities and adheres strictly to all applicable local, state, and federal laws, ensuring a diverse and equitable environment for all staff members.
The Driver, Shuttle Formula role at Vistar is a key position integral to the efficient and safe transportation of essential food products and empty trailers between various company warehouse locations and shuttle yards. This role requires a dedicated professional who can operate tandem trailers, tractor trailers, or straight trucks within intrastate and interstate routes, ensuring timely deliveries while adhering to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Drivers in this role are the face of the company, responsible not just for delivering goods but also for cultivating strong, positive relationships with customers, vendors, and colleagues through professional communication and reliable service.
Working Monday through Thursday with dispatch times between 3 pm and 5 pm, this position offers competitive pay along with substantial benefits, including day-one health and wellness coverage, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and many others. As part of the essential food distribution system, Vistar provides significant growth opportunities for employees, making this not only a job but a career pathway for those interested in the logistics and foodservice industries.
This role emphasizes safety as a top priority, requiring drivers to perform routine pre-trip and post-trip safety checks on equipment, report any issues promptly, and follow all company and DOT safety guidelines. Drivers manage the secure loading and unloading of freight, including handling damaged goods and customer returns responsibly. Attention to detail in maintaining route paperwork, completing necessary logs, and performing general housekeeping in tractor-trailers and loading areas is crucial for success in this position.
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent and have more than one year of experience in the foodservice distribution industry. Familiarity with onboard computer systems, electronic logging devices such as PeopleNet, and handheld point-of-delivery scanning systems is essential. Physical capability to hand-lift heavy products (typically 60 to 90 pounds) using appropriate equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates is necessary.
Vistar prides itself on offering a safe and inclusive work environment embraced by a culture of respect and recognition. By joining the team as a Driver, Shuttle Formula, employees become key contributors to the company’s mission to deliver exceptional service and support the vital food supply chain across America.
