Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline food distributor that serves a diverse customer base including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on building close, consultative relationships with its clients through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts. This team not only delivers high-quality food products but also provides valuable advice on menu development, product selection, operational strategies, and improving overall business operations. Performance Foodservice is committed to supporting independent restaurant owners and foodservice operators in achieving their goals and growing their businesses.
Performance Foodservice is offering an employment opportunity for a CDL-A Food and Food Service Delivery Driver. This position provides a starting base pay rate of $30.00 per hour with additional incentives including a $4,000 sign-on bonus for new hires (with exceptions). Drivers work early morning hours Monday through Friday and return home every night, providing a stable work-life balance. The company offers competitive pay and benefits right from day one, including health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and much more. There is a strong emphasis on a safe and inclusive working environment characterized by a culture of rewards, recognition, and respect.
The role of the CDL-A Food and Food Service Delivery Driver is vital to the food supply chain. Drivers are responsible for safely operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes, covering local, over-the-road, shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop deliveries. They ensure that food and food-related products are delivered timely and in good condition to customers, who range across various industries. As the face of the company, drivers play a significant role in developing and maintaining lasting customer relationships through professional communication and reliable service.
Primary responsibilities include conducting pre- and post-trip safety inspections of trucks and trailers in compliance with Department of Transportation regulations, reporting any safety or repair issues promptly, and following all safety guidelines and driving policies. Drivers must verify freight counts, inspect loads for proper securing, complete accurate paperwork, and ensure trailers are securely locked during transport. Interaction with customers, vendors, and colleagues must always be professional and accurate. Drivers also load and unload products, handle customer returns, collect payments when required, perform damage control checks, and maintain clean and safe work areas including the tractor cab and loading docks.
This position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent, at least 12 months of commercial driving experience, and a valid CDL-A license. Drivers must be at least 21 years old, maintain a clean motor vehicle record for the past three years, pass drug testing, background checks, and a road test, and hold or obtain a current DOT health card. The job includes manual labor such as hand-lifting and using equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates to move freight typically weighing from 10 to 90 pounds depending on location.
Performance Foodservice is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The company ensures a respectful environment free from discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, marital status, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic in compliance with applicable laws. This commitment extends to all aspects of employment including hiring, promotion, and compensation. Performance Foodservice invites applicants who are passionate about safe driving and contributing to America's food distribution system to join their team and grow professionally while supporting essential foodservice operations.
