Job Description
Core-Mark, a Performance Food Group Company, is a distinguished leader in the convenience retail industry, known for its comprehensive fresh and broad-line distribution solutions. As a subsidiary of a Fortune 150 company, Core-Mark has established a reputation for empowering customers, employees, and communities, generating over $23 billion in revenue through its extensive distribution network across the United States and Canada. The company is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and rewarding workplace culture that values respect, recognition, and opportunity for growth. Core-Mark offers competitive pay and benefits, including day-one health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and much more.
The role of Hourly CDL-A Driver at Core-Mark is crucial in supporting America’s food distribution system. These drivers play a vital part in the food supply chain by ensuring timely, safe delivery of food and food-related products to customers while upholding the company’s commitment to quality service. This position entails operating a tractor trailer or straight truck on various routes, including local, intrastate, interstate, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight drives. Drivers are not only responsible for transporting goods but also act as the face of the company, fostering lasting relationships with customers through professional communication and dependable service.
This is a local delivery position offering home daily schedules with a four-day workweek, providing a healthy work-life balance. Shifts typically begin early in the morning, between 3 AM and 5 AM, and generally extend to around 12 hours per day. The role offers a base pay of $26 per hour plus additional compensation based on job efficiency. Overtime pay is provided after 40 hours, and there are bonuses available for working on off days. Drivers utilize safe, well-maintained equipment featuring automatic transmissions and receive company-provided uniforms and safety boots. Notably, this position does not involve merchandising, stocking, or cash handling, focusing solely on the delivery and customer service aspects.
Key responsibilities include performing all required safety checks in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, ensuring vehicles meet company safety standards, and reporting any repair needs or safety hazards promptly. Drivers must conduct accurate counting checks of loaded items, verify customer invoices, and handle all related paperwork meticulously. They are tasked with securing freight properly, driving according to predetermined route schedules, unloading products, and placing items into designated customer storage areas. Damage control measures, scanning orders, and coordinating with supervisors for order removals are essential parts of the role.
The position requires vigilance in securing the trailer and freight, managing customer returns, and completing all necessary paperwork. Compliance with DOT logging and record-keeping standards is mandatory, including maintaining daily hours-of-service records. Drivers are also responsible for maintaining cleanliness in their vehicles and the loading dock area and performing other related duties as assigned to support operational efficiency and company success.
Core-Mark values qualified candidates who bring experience, professionalism, and dedication to this key transportation role, providing ongoing support and recognition within a stable and reputable company. This opportunity is well-suited for individuals dedicated to contributing to one of the most essential sectors of the supply chain—food distribution—while enjoying competitive pay, benefits, and a supportive work environment.
