Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), plays a vital role in the foodservice supply chain by serving a diverse range of local customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on the strong relationships it builds with its customers through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other experts who provide valued advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and operational strategies. Performance Foodservice is committed not only to delivering quality food products but also to supporting the dreams and growth ambitions of independent restaurant owners.
This job opening is for a CDL-A Driver, a crucial role responsible for the safe and timely delivery of food and foodservice products as part of the company’s distribution network. Drivers at Performance Foodservice operate tractors, trailers, and straight trucks on varied routes that may be intrastate, interstate, over-the-road, shuttle, overnight, or drive-and-drop. This position is designed to maintain high safety standards in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations while ensuring that all customer orders are delivered accurately and efficiently. The CDL-A Driver acts as a direct representative of the company, interacting professionally with customers and upholding the company’s reputation by providing excellent service.
The role offers an average yearly income of $80,000 or more, with opportunities for quarterly safety bonuses. The workweek is five days from Monday through Saturday with no Sundays, but flexibility in days off is required. Some routes may require team driving and overnight layovers. Shift hours typically start in the early morning, between midnight and 5 AM, with approximately 10-hour shifts. The company fosters a safe and inclusive culture that values rewards, recognition, and respect among its employees.
In addition to competitive pay, the company provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes day one health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and many other perks that contribute to the overall well-being and professional growth of the employee. Working with Performance Foodservice offers significant career growth opportunities by performing essential work that supports America’s food distribution system. This is a hands-on role requiring physical capability including hand-lifting and moving product cases of varied weights, using equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates.
The CDL-A Driver will perform pre and post-trip inspections, ensure safe loading and unloading of freight, verify delivery documentation and customer signatures, manage cash or check collections with customers where necessary, and maintain vehicle cleanliness and safety compliance. The company emphasizes comprehensive safety checks and expects drivers to immediately report any mechanical or safety issues. Drivers will also perform related tasks assigned by management to best serve the company’s operational objectives.
Overall, this role is ideal for individuals who are safety-conscious, customer-oriented, and physically capable, looking to join a growing organization that values its people and their contributions to the foodservice supply chain’s success.
