Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a prominent broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), plays an essential role in the food supply chain by partnering with a wide array of local customers. These include independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. This company distinguishes itself not only through the quality of its food products but also through the dedicated support it provides its customers. A diverse team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and specialists works closely with clients to offer expert advice on operational improvements, menu development, product selection, and strategic management to help business owners succeed and to enhance the service quality within the foodservice industry. The company emphasizes safe, inclusive workplace culture fostered by a commitment to respect, recognition, and rewards, all of which drive their impressive track record in employee satisfaction and customer service excellence.
This role is for a CDL-A Driver, a critical position within Performance Foodservice dedicated to supporting America’s food distribution by ensuring timely and safe delivery of food and food-related products. The job offers competitive remuneration with an average yearly income of $80,000 plus additional quarterly safety bonus opportunities. Employees typically work a five-day schedule from Monday through Saturday, with Sundays off and some flexibility required for varying days off. Shift times mainly range between midnight and early morning hours, averaging about 10-hour shifts primarily focused on ramp work. Certain routes may require overnight stays and team driving, providing variation and unique challenges in daily operations.
The CDL-A Driver is responsible for driving tractor trailers or straight trucks for intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and drive-and-drop routes. The key focus is delivering products safely, efficiently, and compliantly with Department of Transportation regulations. Drivers act as the face of Performance Foodservice, building lasting, positive relationships with customers through professional communication and reliable service. Core duties encompass conducting thorough pre- and post-trip inspections, completing safety checks, securing loaded freight, handling deliveries in compliance with company policies, verifying shipments, managing payments where necessary, and ensuring all documentation is accurately maintained.
The role includes physically demanding tasks such as hand-lifting heavy product cases, utilizing equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates, and maintaining cleanliness and order in the tractor and loading docks. Safety remains a top priority, with drivers expected to report hazards immediately and maintain equipment in safe working condition. Additional responsibilities involve general housekeeping duties, adherence to hours-of-service regulations, and collaboration with team members to support company goals. This position is vital to Performance Foodservice’s mission to uphold a safe and efficient food distribution system that customers rely on day after day.
Overall, the CDL-A Driver position offers a dynamic career opportunity within a well-established company, providing excellent benefits such as day one health and wellness coverage, stock purchase plans, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and a supportive work environment focused on growth and employee well-being. Joining Performance Foodservice means contributing meaningfully to the nation’s food service network while enjoying a rewarding and secure professional path.
