The CDL-A Driver role at Performance Foodservice is a critical position within the company's food supply chain operations. Drivers play a vital role by ensuring timely and safe delivery of food and related products to customers across intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop routes. This position features a five-day work week with shifts typically spanning 10 hours and includes working early morning dispatch hours from midnight to 5 AM; flexibility is required regarding days off and scheduling of certain team or overnight routes involving layovers. Drivers in this role earn an average yearly income of $80,000 or more, coupled with opportunities for quarterly safety bonuses.

Key responsibilities include communicating professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers to address questions efficiently; conducting thorough pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections of trucks and trailers adhering strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations; reporting safety issues promptly; following company safety standards; accurately completing freight-related paperwork; driving trucks safely along predetermined routes; loading and unloading products; performing damage control; securing freight; and maintaining cleanliness and organization of vehicles and loading dock areas. Additionally, CDL-A Drivers are responsible for compliance with federal, state, and company rules concerning recording hours of service and proper log entries. Successful candidates are required to have a valid CDL-A license, a clean Motor Vehicle Report for the past 3 years, and must pass drug, criminal background, and road tests. Physical capability to lift and handle freight weighing up to approximately 60 to 90 pounds using equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates is essential.
