Job Description

Updike Distribution Logistics is a reputable regional carrier operating primarily in the Southwestern United States, including Arizona, Southern California, Northern California, Nevada, and Utah. Established as a driver-focused transportation company, Updike is committed to fair compensation, consistent freight opportunities, and respectful treatment of its drivers. This company prides itself on maintaining straightforward operations and transparent pay structures that prioritize the needs and well-being of its driving staff. Their regional approach enables drivers to operate predominantly within a manageable geographic area, which enhances work-life balance and reduces extended time away from home compared to long-haul operations. Updike Distribution Logistics has built a solid reputation in the logistics and transportation industry due to its consistent freight availability and dedication to driver satisfaction, making it a sought-after carrier for drivers looking for stability and fair pay in their careers.

The role of a driver at Updike Distribution Logistics offers a competitive compensation package designed to reward both safety and productivity. The pay starts at 55 cents per mile (CPM) plus a bonus of 5.5 cents per mile, which can increase total pay up to 60.5 cents per mile, reflecting the company's emphasis on incentivizing consistent performance. Additional compensation includes layover pay of $150 per 24-hour period if delays occur beyond the driver's control, detention pay of $25 per hour after the first two hours if the driver arrives on time, and a $15 driver assist unload pay, though such occurrences are rare. Hourly work is compensated at a rate of $15.50 per hour where applicable, and extra stops are rewarded with $25 per stop beyond the standard one pickup and one delivery per run.

Drivers can also benefit from a variety of bonuses, such as a safety production bonus paid at 3 cents per mile for qualifying months, reinforcing the importance of safe driving practices. Production bonuses of up to 2.5 cents per mile are available based on mileage goals and performance expectations. New drivers are eligible for a $500 transition bonus, supporting their onboarding process, while a substantial $2,500 retention bonus is awarded after 180 days of service, demonstrating the company’s commitment to driver retention and appreciation.

New hires receive paid orientation at $150, ensuring they are well-prepared before hitting the road. After 90 days of employment, drivers become eligible for comprehensive benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance, ensuring that drivers and their families have necessary healthcare support. Additional benefits include a 401(k) plan with a match of up to 6%, supporting long-term financial security. Updike Distribution Logistics values work-life balance and rewards loyalty with paid time off options such as holiday pay of $125 for holidays worked and vacation pay structured to increase with tenure, offering 1 week after 1 year, 2 weeks after 3 years, and 3 weeks after 5 or more years of service.

Driving for Updike offers the advantage of operating true regional lanes across the Southwest, with multiple terminals strategically located throughout the service area. This network supports logistical efficiency and driver convenience, allowing for streamlined trip planning and reduced downtime. The company’s straightforward pay structure and bonus system foster a transparent and motivating work environment, highlighting Updike's dedication to rewarding safe driving and productivity. This role is ideal for professional drivers seeking consistent freight, fair pay, comprehensive benefits, and a supportive regional carrier with a strong presence in the Southwestern United States.
