Job Description
GFL Environmental Inc. is a leading environmental services company committed to providing sustainable waste management solutions that support communities and businesses in maintaining cleaner and greener environments. Known affectionately as Team Green, the company is dedicated to investing in its workforce by offering robust growth opportunities and fostering a culture that encourages life-long development. GFL operates across a broad spectrum of services including solid waste collection, liquid hazardous waste management, recycling, and industrial waste treatment, making it a pivotal player in the environmental services industry. Their corporate mission centers around sustainable practices enabling their customers and communities to be green for life, aligning their operations closely with environmental stewardship and responsibility.
This role as a hazardous waste driver is critical within GFL’s operational framework. The driver will be responsible for transporting, removing, delivering, and collecting various types of hazardous waste—both liquid and solid—from various customer locations. Handling such sensitive materials requires strict adherence to safety and regulatory standards, making this position integral to both customer satisfaction and community safety. The role also involves loading and unloading trucks, requiring physical stamina and attention to detail to maintain safety and efficiency. Drivers must operate a variety of equipment including vacuum trucks, box trucks, and any other vehicles permissible under their license, highlighting the need for versatile driving skills.
The hazardous waste driver not only ensures the physical movement of materials but also plays a crucial role in compliance. This includes managing necessary documentation such as manifests and bills of lading and performing comprehensive trip and vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness and adherence to safety regulations. Regular communication with customers, co-workers, and the public is essential, as is maintaining logs of working hours and vehicle maintenance records. The driver is expected to promote a professional and mature demeanor even under stressful conditions, supporting team cohesion and superior service delivery.
GFL encourages its drivers to develop professionally within the company, offering training opportunities and leadership roles as needed. The company culture emphasizes safety, sustainability, and community impact, fostering a workplace where employees are valued and motivated to contribute to the larger purpose. Employment with GFL offers competitive benefits including three weeks of paid time off annually, multiple medical plan options including HSA with employer contributions, dental and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan with employer match, paid holidays, and an employee assistance program providing free counseling services. This comprehensive package ensures that team members are supported both on and off the job.
Working as a hazardous waste driver for GFL is more than just a job; it is a commitment to environmental responsibility, safety excellence, and community service. The company’s inclusive policies and equal opportunity stance ensure a supportive and diverse working environment. Candidates with a clean driving record, CDL Class A license with tanker and hazmat endorsements, and the ability to operate manual transmissions are highly encouraged to apply. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to handle physically demanding tasks. Candidates should be prepared for weekend work and overtime as required, functioning effectively within a fast-paced, dynamic environment. GFL’s commitment to safety, sustainability, and professional development makes this position a rewarding opportunity for motivated individuals eager to make a difference in the environmental services sector.
