The Driver role at Buckhead Atlanta’s Nashville YARD involves managing daily delivery routes with multiple stops, requiring strong organizational skills and physical stamina. Drivers are responsible for loading packages onto hand trucks, unloading products at each stop following the designated order set by the Transportation Department Manager, and engaging directly with customers. This role requires adherence to a cross-dock model where drivers pick up uploaded trucks from a nightly delivery at their assigned loading dock and return trucks to their respective lots after completing the routes. From handling product weighing from 1 to 75 pounds, sometimes reaching up to 100 pounds, to facing all weather conditions, the job demands physical endurance and consistent accuracy.

In addition to driving responsibilities, Buckhead Atlanta expects drivers to maintain an impeccable level of customer service, handle company equipment properly, and comply with safety regulations, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections defined by the Department of Transportation and internal policies. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • one year route delivery experience or equivalent
  • valid commercial driver’s license class B, class A preferred
  • ability to read and speak English effectively
  • capable of operating a vehicle in diverse traffic and weather conditions
  • physically capable of frequent lifting up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds
  • able to climb on and off truck box
  • frequent bending, squatting, pushing, and pulling
  • able to work in confined spaces

Job Qualifications

  • High school or GED or equivalent
  • one year route delivery experience or applicable background driving a straight truck
  • valid commercial driver’s license – class B (class A preferred)
  • ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records
  • operate vehicle in a variety of traffic and weather conditions

Job Duties

  • Provide technical, customer relations, and personnel management for major programs and projects
  • runs routes efficiently, meeting or exceeding designated route times
  • unload product from trailer, by hand or using a hand cart, and place in designated customer storage areas, may include transporting product down ramps, stairs, or docks, in all weather conditions
  • frequently lift, push, or move product that weighs 1-75 pounds, up to 100 pounds
  • frequently reach up to 72 inches to stack and unstack pallets and hand cart
  • constantly bend and twist while loading and unloading product, and retrieving items from trailer
  • verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures
  • contact management for authorization when discrepancies on invoice and communicate all errors/returns
  • calls in when a customer does not receive their entire order
  • handles any customer complaints professionally
  • handles company equipment properly, follow written driver safety rules, and performs a pre-trip inspection
  • perform pre-trip and post-trip responsibilities in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and Sysco policies and procedures
  • organize a truck and make the deliveries efficiently
  • check whether a truck is operating well enough to perform the route
