Job Description

ABF Freight, an ArcBest company, is a leading less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier with over a century of experience providing reliable and efficient freight transportation services across North America. As one of the nation's largest and most trusted LTL carriers, ABF Freight operates an extensive network comprising 240 service centers, ensuring a broad geographical reach and rapid delivery times. The company prides itself on its steadfast commitment to quality, safety, and exceptional customer service, serving a diverse array of industries and businesses of all sizes. With a strong reputation for operational excellence and innovation, ABF Freight continually invests in its workforce and technology to maintain its position as a leader in the logistics and transportation industry.

This particular role focuses on the critical function of handling cargo through the pickup and delivery of freight to and from various destinations, primarily within the vicinity of consolidation and distribution centers. The position requires the loading and unloading of trailers, performing tasks that align closely with those of dock workers, using established techniques, technology, and procedures. Employees in this role will exercise independent judgment in efficiently building and tearing down trailers, optimizing the use of time, resources, and physical efforts while strictly adhering to legal weight distribution requirements. Additional responsibilities include operating forklifts as needed, performing thorough inspections and setups of tractors and trailers, and completing routine documentation such as loading sheets accurately and effectively.

The job offers an excellent compensation package with a wage rate of $32.61 per hour, paid on a weekly basis. As a unionized position under the Teamster Union scale, employees earn wages that surpass those of many competitors, along with overtime pay for hours worked beyond eight hours per day. The work schedule is flexible and may vary depending on the terminal location, with shifts potentially including days, nights, and weekends. Due to the vital nature of this role in the freight transportation chain, successful candidates must demonstrate a stable work and safe driving record and be at least 21 years of age. Meeting Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, including passing pre-employment drug screenings and medical evaluations, is mandatory.

ABF Freight offers comprehensive benefits to its union employees at no premium cost, including full health and welfare coverage, seven days of annual sick leave, life insurance, a pension plan, and participation in a profit-sharing program. Employees also have the option to contribute to the Teamsters National 401(k) plan, enhancing financial security for retirement. The company fosters a supportive work environment with opportunities for training and career development, exemplified by eligibility for training for candidates with less than one year of tractor/trailer driving experience. This role is ideal for individuals seeking a stable career in the transportation industry with competitive pay, excellent benefits, and a company committed to safety and operational excellence.
