Job Description

ABF Freight, an ArcBest company, stands as one of the nation's largest and most trusted less-than-truckload (LTL) carriers. With over 100 years of expertise in the transportation industry, ABF Freight operates an expansive network of 240 service centers across North America. This vast infrastructure supports a wide range of customers, ranging from small businesses to large enterprises, across numerous industries. The company is recognized for its steadfast dedication to quality, safety, and exceptional customer service, which has solidified its reputation as a leader in LTL freight transportation. ABF Freight is committed to continuous improvement and innovation, ensuring that it meets the evolving needs of its diverse clientele while maintaining reliable and timely delivery services.

The position of Tractor-Trailer Driver at ABF Freight offers an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about transportation and logistics. This role primarily involves the pickup and delivery of cargo to and from various destinations, typically within close proximity to consolidation and distribution centers. As a Tractor-Trailer Driver, you will be responsible for the efficient loading and unloading of trailers, employing techniques and procedures similar to those of dock workers. The job requires exercising independent judgment for building and tearing down trailers in a manner that optimizes time, resources, and physical effort while strictly complying with all regulations concerning weight distribution.

Key responsibilities include operating a forklift when necessary, performing tractor and trailer inspections, completing routine paperwork such as loading sheets, and ensuring the safe and timely transport of goods. Applicants for this position should expect variability in their schedules and duties depending on the terminal location, which may include day, night, and weekend shifts. Candidates with less than one year of tractor-trailer experience may be eligible for training, underscoring ABF Freight's commitment to developing its workforce. The pay rate for this hourly position is $29.33 per hour, with overtime paid after eight hours in a day. As a union position, wages follow the Teamster Union scale, which is generally higher than most competitors in the industry.

Working at ABF Freight offers many benefits. The company provides comprehensive health and welfare benefits with zero employee-paid premiums, life insurance through a multi-employer sponsored fund, and a pension plan at no cost to employees. Teamsters gain 7 days of sick leave annually and may accumulate additional paid time off by combining personal days, sick leave, and holidays. Employees also have access to the Teamsters National 401(k) plan and a profit-sharing program, contributing to long-term financial security. ABF Freight's supportive work environment, competitive compensation package, and commitment to employee well-being make it an excellent place to build a career in transportation and logistics.
