Job Description
ABF Freight, an ArcBest company, is recognized as one of the largest and most trusted less-than-truckload (LTL) carriers in the United States. With over 100 years of operational excellence, ABF Freight has established a robust network of 240 service centers distributed across North America. The company is committed to delivering superior transportation services characterized by quality, safety, and outstanding customer service. ABF Freight serves companies of all sizes and industries, providing flexible and reliable freight solutions designed to meet varied logistic needs. Their dedication to excellence and industry leadership makes them a preferred partner in the logistics and transportation space.
The role offered is a full-time position for a professional Tractor Trailer Driver responsible for the pickup and delivery of cargo to and from nearby destinations, generally within proximity to a consolidation or distribution center. This position includes the loading and unloading of trailers, applying the same techniques, technology, and procedures as dock workers, which emphasizes the importance of safety and efficiency in warehouse and transport operations. Drivers will be expected to exercise independent judgment to maximize time, resources, and physical effort effectively while adhering to all weight distribution laws to ensure compliance and safety.
Drivers in this role will perform a range of tasks, including operating forklifts, performing tractor and trailer inspections, setting up tractors, completing routine paperwork, and properly logging loading sheets. The job may require varied schedules depending on the specific service center location, potentially including days, nights, and weekends. The company offers an hourly wage starting from $29.33 per hour along with union-scale wages and overtime pay after 8 hours per day, reflecting a strong commitment to fair compensation. Additional benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage with no employee premium costs, life insurance, participation in a pension plan, and opportunities to contribute to a company-sponsored 401(k) plan. Employees also receive generous paid time off, including sick leave, personal days, paid holidays, and up to six weeks of vacation based on years of service. ABF Freight prides itself on providing modern and well-maintained equipment, ensuring drivers can safely and efficiently perform their duties.
This position demands a minimum of one year of verifiable tractor/trailer driving experience, although candidates with less experience may qualify for training. A Class-A CDL with endorsements for doubles/triples, tanker, and hazardous materials is required. The candidate must be at least 21 years old, maintain a safe driving record, have a stable work history, and be capable of passing DOT pre-employment drug screening and meeting medical requirements. Overall, this role offers an excellent opportunity for professional drivers seeking a stable and rewarding career with a reputable and well-established company dedicated to employee success and customer satisfaction.
