Job Description
Sysco is a global leader in selling, marketing, and distributing food products to restaurants, healthcare, and educational facilities. As a major foodservice distribution company, Sysco operates a vast network of distribution centers and a fleet of delivery trucks to ensure fresh and timely delivery of products to its customers. The company's commitment to quality customer service, operational excellence, and safety standards is evident throughout its logistics operations. Sysco's transportation team plays a crucial role in logistics by managing the delivery routes and ensuring all products reach their destinations efficiently and safely.
The role of a Delivery Driver with Sysco involves running daily routes with frequent stops, loading packages onto hand trucks, and unloading products at various stops along the assigned route in the specific order designated by the Transportation Department Manager. Operating within a cross-dock distribution model, the driver picks up a loaded truck from nightly deliveries at the designated loading dock and returns the empty truck back to the assigned lot at the end of their route. In addition to driving responsibilities, the driver may occasionally assist with loading trucks, palletizing products, and perform other duties assigned by supervisors or managers. This position goes beyond just driving; it demands physical stamina, attention to detail, strong customer service skills, and adherence to safety regulations.
The Delivery Driver functions as the front line in customer interaction by verifying deliveries, obtaining signatures, addressing customer complaints professionally, and ensuring that discrepancies in orders are communicated to management promptly. Compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, company safety rules, and performing thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections are vital responsibilities to maintain safety and operational standards. This position requires a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL), a clean driving record, and the ability to handle freight that may weigh up to 100 pounds regularly. Flexibility is also critical as the role may involve overtime, weekends, and holiday shifts depending on business needs.
Working at Sysco as a Delivery Driver provides the opportunity to be part of a respected industry leader with a commitment to operational excellence, employee safety, and customer satisfaction. This position offers competitive compensation and opportunities to develop skills in logistics, customer service, and transportation management within a supportive work environment. Sysco values its drivers as essential personnel who contribute directly to the company’s mission of delivering quality food products safely and efficiently to customers across various sectors.
