The role of the CDL-A Driver at Performance Foodservice is crucial to the food supply chain's efficiency and reliability. This position involves operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on various routes including intrastate, interstate, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and drive-and-drop schedules. Drivers are the front-line representatives of the company, fostering positive customer relationships and upholding the company's reputation for dependable service.
The CDL-A Driver’s responsibilities extend beyond just driving; the role demands extensive interaction with customers, vendors, and colleagues to guarantee smooth operation and problem resolution. Safety is a paramount concern, requiring thorough pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, compliance with DOT safety regulations, and immediate reporting of any hazards or maintenance issues. Drivers are also responsible for verifying freight accuracy, securing loads, handling customer payments, and executing general housekeeping tasks related to their equipment and work environment. They must maintain comprehensive and legible documentation, including hours of service logs that comply with federal and state regulations.
Candidates must hold a valid CDL-A license, be at least 21 years old, and possess at least six months of commercial driving experience. A clean motor vehicle record for three years, successful passing of drug and background checks, and a valid or obtainable DOT health card are also mandatory. Physical capability to handle lifting and moving freight, which can vary in weight from 10 to 90 pounds, is essential. This role calls for reliability, professionalism, and a strong commitment to safety and customer service.
Joining Performance Foodservice as a CDL-A Driver offers a meaningful career path with opportunities for advancement within a company recognized for integrity, diversity, and dedication to employee well-being and community support. The company’s comprehensive benefits and supportive work environment ensure that every team member has the tools to succeed and grow their career in the vital field of food service distribution.
