The role of Driver, Hourly CDL-A at Vistar is an hourly position with a schedule from Monday to Friday, involving early departure times at 2 am and 4 am, with most weekends spent at home and a maximum of two overnights per week. As a CDL-A Truck Driver, you will be responsible for operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road, shuttle, and drive-and-drop routes. You will be the primary representative of Vistar to the customers, maintaining positive relationships and providing professional interactions. Your daily duties will cover safety inspections, compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, managing freight securely, and precise handling of paperwork and deliveries. The role demands physical capability to handle freight weighing between 10 to 90 pounds, operate equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates, and ensure that vehicles and trailers are well-maintained and loaded properly. Regular interaction with customers for delivery verification and occasional collection of payments will also be required.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum 6 months commercial driving experience
  • valid CDL-A license
  • age 21 or older
  • meet state licensing and certification requirements
  • clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • pass drug test and criminal background check
  • pass road test
  • possess or obtain DOT Health Card
  • able to lift and move products averaging 10-35 pounds and up to 90 pounds using equipment
  • reliable and punctual
  • strong communication and customer service skills
  • ability to follow DOT regulations and safety guidelines

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • 6+ months commercial driving experience
  • valid CDL-A
  • must be 21+ years of age
  • meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • pass road test
  • attain or have valid current DOT Health Card or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move product cases/freight of varying size and weight

Job Duties

  • Performs all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
  • inspects tractor/truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and take appropriate action as needed
  • reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
  • follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • immediately reports all safety hazards
  • inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • performs count check of items and checks customer invoices of products loaded
  • checks and completes all required paperwork accurately and legibly
  • moves tractor to the loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed
  • drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • unloads products from trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas
  • performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contacts supervisor about removing orders per policy
  • verifies delivery with customer and obtains proper signatures
  • collects money where required
  • loads customer returns onto trailer and secures trailer doors
  • ensures tractor, trailer, and freight are secured and locked
  • unloads damaged goods and returns, completes necessary paperwork
  • performs daily record of hours of service and enters log per Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • performs general housekeeping duties in tractor and loading dock area
  • secures all equipment and completes paperwork at end of shift
  • performs other related duties as assigned
