Job Description
US3069 Sygma Portland, operating as part of The Sygma Network, Inc., is a reputable and established company specializing in foodservice distribution. With its headquarters located in the vibrant community of Portland, Oregon, this branch is a vital component of a nationwide network dedicated to delivering high-quality food products to a broad range of customers, including restaurants, healthcare facilities, and hospitality venues. The company has built a strong reputation on its commitment to customer service excellence, reliability, and innovation in logistics, making it a preferred partner in the foodservice industry. Sygma Portland benefits from being part of the larger Sysco family, a global leader with over 71,000 colleagues and a vast fleet of more than 13,000 vehicles serving more than 700,000 customer locations worldwide. This affiliation brings the advantages of scale, extensive resources, and industry expertise to the local team, enhancing its operational capabilities and service delivery.
The role being offered is for a Delivery Driver position with no assigned sales territory and based in the 97015 zip code area. This is a full-time employment opportunity with zero travel requirements, allowing for stability and consistency in work routines. The compensation package is competitive and attractive, with delivery drivers running 3-4 routes per week and earning an average annual salary of $105,000, with potential earnings exceeding $125,000. This pay range reflects various factors such as skills, experience, and work location. As part of the employment, Sygma Portland offers paid training to ensure drivers are adequately prepared for their responsibilities and can maximize their earning potential. The company’s philosophy emphasizes the more one drives, the more one earns, underlining a direct correlation between effort and reward.
The primary responsibility for this role is the safe and efficient transportation of food products from the warehouse to various customer locations using tractor trailers. Drivers are expected to handle product delivery and unloading according to customer specifications and company standards, ensuring timeliness and accuracy in every transaction. The role requires strict adherence to safety protocols, including maintaining proper food temperatures during transport, inspecting products for damages, and following DOT regulations and Hazmat guidelines where applicable.
Delivering excellent customer service is fundamental to this role, and drivers are encouraged to develop positive relationships with customers through courteous communication and professionalism. The work environment involves regular physical activity such as unloading products manually or with hand carts, sometimes in varying weather conditions and requiring strength and stamina. Drivers must complete necessary documentation meticulously, including electronic or manual logs, vehicle maintenance reports, and delivery invoices.
Sygma Portland provides well-maintained equipment, all of which are automatic vehicles, promoting ease of operation and safety. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance effective shortly after employment, 401k savings plans with company stock purchase options, paid holidays, and a structured evening dispatch schedule. Most routes are designed to be completed within 36 hours or less to maintain work-life balance for employees. This role is suitable for individuals who possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License, have relevant tractor-trailer driving experience or completed formal training, and demonstrate the ability to work independently while maintaining high productivity and safety standards.
In summary, Sygma Portland offers a stable career opportunity within a supportive and dynamic work environment, backed by one of the largest foodservice distribution companies globally. This role is ideal for individuals seeking a predictable schedule, competitive compensation, excellent benefits, and the chance to grow within an industry leader dedicated to exceptional service and operational excellence.
