Job Description
Performance Foodservice (PFG) is a leading broadline foodservice distributor committed to supporting a diverse range of local customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company builds strong relationships through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other culinary experts who offer personalized advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and operational strategies. With a mission that goes beyond just delivering food, PFG empowers independent restaurant owners and foodservice providers to achieve their goals by offering not only high-quality products but also valuable industry expertise and support.
This particular job opening at PFG is for an entry-level Driver Trainee, a critical role within the company’s logistics and distribution operations. The position offers a competitive pay rate of $400 per day with a work schedule from Monday to Saturday, typically spanning four to five days per week. The role primarily involves local routes with occasional overnight trips, providing a well-rounded experience that helps the trainee develop the comprehensive skills needed for successful driving careers within the food distribution industry.
The Driver Trainee will be responsible for learning and gaining practical experience in operating a tractor-trailer or straight truck on various route types including intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight assignments. This role requires adherence to safety standards as established under Company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Trainees will receive structured training through PFG’s Entry Level Driver or Dock to Driver Training Programs, participating alongside experienced trainers to learn essential delivery, vehicle inspection, and safety procedures.
In addition to driving, the position emphasizes professional communication and customer service. Driver Trainees are expected to interact effectively with customers, vendors, and co-workers to ensure orders are delivered accurately, unloaded safely, and documented appropriately. Trainees will also assist in vehicle and trailer maintenance checks, proper securing of freight, and reporting any safety or operational issues. The role involves some physical tasks such as hand-lifting and utilization of equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates to move product cases weighing between 60 to 90 pounds.
PFG supports its employees with an array of benefits including day-one health and wellness benefits, employee stock purchase plans, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off. The company fosters a safe and inclusive work environment that values rewards, recognition, and respect for its team members, making it an ideal workplace for those seeking career growth in the transportation and foodservice industries. Joining PFG means becoming part of an industry-leading organization focused on helping employees grow while supporting America’s vital food distribution infrastructure.
