The Driver, Hourly CDL-A role at Core-Mark is a critical position that supports the nation’s food supply chain by ensuring timely and safe delivery of food and food service products. This role entails operating tractor-trailers or straight trucks locally on both intrastate and interstate routes. Drivers play an essential part in maintaining excellent customer relationships as the face of the company, delivering products in good condition and on schedule. Drivers benefit from competitive pay, ranging from $70,000 to $75,000 per year, plus a $7,000 sign-on bonus. The position is full-time with a four-day workweek (subject to change) and dispatch times between 3 pm and 5 pm, with routes that ensure drivers are home daily.

This full-time company driver position demands strong adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies. Drivers perform mandatory safety and maintenance checks on tractors, trailers, and cargo, ensuring all equipment meets safety standards. The role includes loading, unloading, and securing freight, checking orders against invoices, and managing paperwork accurately. Drivers interact professionally with customers, vendors, and team members, providing excellent customer service and resolving delivery concerns. They also maintain comprehensive logs of hours of service and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and company regulations.

The position requires physical ability to handle freight loads ranging from 10 to 90 pounds using manual and mechanical equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates. Drivers are responsible for general housekeeping duties related to their equipment and work areas and must be willing to perform other related duties assigned. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • 1+ year of tractor trailer driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or have current DOT Health Card or secure new DOT Health Card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate, and other equipment to move product cases/freight of varying size and weight

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • 1+ year of tractor trailer driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or have a valid current DOT Health Card or be able to secure a new DOT Health Card
  • Ability to hand-lift and utilize equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates to move product cases/freight

Job Duties

  • Performs all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
  • Inspects tractor/truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and take appropriate action as needed
  • Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
  • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Immediately reports all safety hazards
  • Inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Performs count check of items and checks customer invoices of products that have been loaded
  • Completes paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly
  • Moves tractor to the loading dock and attaches preloaded trailers as needed
  • Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unloads products from the trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas
  • Performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
  • Verifies delivery of items with customers and obtains proper signatures
  • Collects money (cash or checks) where required
  • Loads customer returns onto trailer and secures trailer doors
  • Ensures that tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured
  • Unloads damaged goods and customer returns and brings them to driver check-in completing necessary paperwork
  • Unloads all equipment, materials and removes trash from trailers as required
  • Completes daily record of hours of service and enters in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area, and keeps trailers clear and clean
  • At the end of the shift secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
