As part of Performance Food Group (PFG), the company is dedicated not only to delivering high-quality food products but also to building close, trusted relationships with its clients. Their team comprises sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and various experts who collaborate to support customers in enhancing their operations, improving menu development, choosing the right products, and optimizing operational strategies. This comprehensive approach makes Performance Foodservice not just a supplier, but a valued partner in the food industry.
Performance Foodservice has consistently demonstrated a commitment to fostering an inclusive, safe, and rewarding workplace culture. Recognized for their equal employment opportunity practices, the company ensures non-discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, gender identity, and other protected characteristics, reflecting their core values of respect and diversity. Employees benefit from numerous programs and policies including a competitive pay structure, extensive health and wellness benefits starting on day one of employment, an employee stock purchase plan, a 401K retirement plan with employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off, among others.
The role of CDL-A Driver at Performance Foodservice is vital to the efficient and successful delivery of food and related products across multiple locations. This position is classified as an Extraboard role, requiring flexibility to travel and fill in for paid time off and unexpected absences of regular staff. The company covers related expenses such as mileage, per diem, and hotel accommodations, emphasizing their support for employees who take on this critical logistical responsibility. With an average annual pay exceeding $114,000, this position offers a lucrative opportunity for experienced commercial drivers.
The CDL-A Driver is tasked with the safe operation of a tractor-trailer or straight truck for intrastate and interstate deliveries, including over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes, as well as drive and drop operations. The successful candidate plays a crucial role in sustaining America’s food distribution network by ensuring timely and accurate deliveries. Beyond driving, this position requires the handling and unloading of product shipments, maintaining compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) safety regulations, and upholding company safety standards. Additionally, drivers act as representatives of the company, often serving as the primary point of contact with customers, thereby fostering positive relationships and upholding the company’s reputation.
This role demands a high level of professionalism in all interactions with customers, vendors, and coworkers. Responsibilities include performing comprehensive pre and post-trip safety inspections, completing all required paperwork accurately, conducting damage control procedures, verifying deliveries with customer signatures, and managing cash or check payments when required. Physical demands include manual handling of freight weighing up to 90 pounds and operating equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates. The CDL-A Driver must also maintain detailed records of hours of service in compliance with federal, state, and company requirements.
Performance Foodservice offers a dynamic work environment with opportunities for career growth, a culture that values recognition and respect, and a comprehensive benefits package. This essential position is ideal for experienced commercial drivers seeking a rewarding career with a company that supports its employees and values their contributions to America’s food supply chain.
