Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a part of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline food distributor dedicated to serving a wide array of local customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on its unique and close-knit relationships with clients, supported by a diverse team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts. This team not only delivers high-quality food products but also offers extensive guidance on operational efficiencies, menu development, product selection, and overall business strategies to help independent restaurant owners and other clients achieve their goals and grow their enterprises. As a well-established entity in the foodservice industry, Performance Foodservice is committed to excellence, innovation, and customer satisfaction, striving to remain a trusted partner in the food supply chain.
The role of CDL-A Driver is critical within Performance Foodservice’s operations, especially given the company’s commitment to reliably supporting America’s food distribution system. This position is classified as an extraboard role that requires flexibility and the willingness to travel to cover paid time off (PTO) and call-offs. The company covers mileage, per diem, and hotel accommodations, ensuring that drivers are well-supported while on the road. With an average annual pay exceeding $114,000, this role not only offers competitive compensation but also extensive benefits starting from day one of employment, including free uniforms and an annual safety boot allowance.
As a CDL-A Driver, you will be responsible for operating tractor trailers or straight trucks to deliver food and food-related products. The deliveries span intrastate, interstate, and local routes and include over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight assignments as well as drive-and-drop routes. In this capacity, you will be instrumental in ensuring safe and timely delivery to customers while adhering strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards. Your role will extend beyond just driving; you will function as the public face of Performance Foodservice, fostering positive and lasting relationships with customers through professional communication and dependable service.
Primary responsibilities encompass conducting mandatory safety checks and inspections, accurately completing all freight-related paperwork, verifying and securing freight, and managing the physical loading and unloading of products. This position demands strong attention to detail for damage control and inventory verification, as well as the ability to collect payments and handle returns when necessary. You will also be accountable for maintaining cleanliness and organization within the tractor, trailer, and loading dock areas, while ensuring that all equipment is securely locked when not in use. Drivers in this role must maintain accurate logs of hours of service in compliance with federal, state, and company rules, underscoring the importance of regulatory adherence and safety.
Performance Foodservice fosters a safe and inclusive workplace culture marked by rewards, recognition, and respect, making employee well-being a priority. This role provides numerous growth opportunities, as you will be performing essential work that directly supports the country’s food supply chain. The company’s strong commitment to employee health and wellness is reflected in its comprehensive benefits package, which includes health and wellness programs, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off, among other perks. As a CDL-A Driver with Performance Foodservice, you will enjoy a supportive environment where your contributions are valued and your professional development is encouraged.
