Job Description
Performance Foodservice, the broadline distribution arm of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading foodservice distributor committed to supporting local customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts, the company helps its customers excel by offering advice on operations, menu development, product selection, and operational strategies. Performance Foodservice prides itself not only on delivering high-quality food products but also on building strong, lasting relationships with its clients and empowering independent restaurant owners to realize their business goals. Known for its inclusive culture, the company fosters an environment of respect, recognition, and reward, ensuring employees feel valued and supported as they deliver essential services across the country’s food distribution network.
The role of Food and Food Service Delivery Driver at Performance Foodservice encompasses a vital responsibility in the nation’s food supply chain. The driver serves as the critical connection between the company’s products and the customers who depend on timely, safe deliveries to operate effectively. This position requires competency in driving a tractor trailer or straight truck across intrastate and interstate routes including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes. Delivery drivers operate on split days off and 10 to 12-hour shifts, typically working between 4 to 5 days a week without Sunday shifts, with dispatch times between 12AM and 5AM depending on the assigned route.
In addition to the technical duties of transporting and delivering food and related products safely and on schedule, drivers play a key role in customer service and company representation. They interact professionally with customers, vendors, and colleagues, answering questions accurately and promptly while maintaining the company’s standards of service. Drivers also perform all necessary safety checks, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and trailer, complying with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and internal safety guidelines. Maintaining an impeccable safety record and reporting vehicle issues or hazards promptly is imperative.
Drivers are tasked with verifying freight counts, inspecting products for damage, completing accurate paperwork, and securing freight and equipment thoroughly. They handle unloading duties and assist with moving goods into designated storage areas, ensuring compliance with company policies on damaged or returned merchandise. The position demands physical capability to hand-lift and operate tools such as two-wheelers and lift gates, requiring regular handling of products ranging from 10 to 90 pounds.
Performance Foodservice offers a competitive daily pay starting at a minimum of $350, along with comprehensive benefits starting from the first day, including health and wellness programs, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more. The company emphasizes growth opportunities within the organization, safe working conditions, and an inclusive work culture where contributions are recognized and valued. This delivery role is integral to supporting America’s food distribution system and presents rewarding career advancement for dedicated professionals committed to safety, service excellence, and teamwork.
