The Food and Food Service Delivery Driver role plays an indispensable part within this organization, ensuring the seamless movement of food products across the supply chain. Drivers are entrusted with transporting goods safely and efficiently, adhering to both intrastate and interstate routes including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and drive-and-drop routes. These professionals represent the face of Performance Foodservice externally, cultivating lasting customer relationships while maintaining high standards of timeliness and product integrity. This position offers competitive pay starting at a minimum of $350 per day, with work schedules typically ranging from 4 to 5 days per week, excluding Sundays, and shifts averaging 10 to 12 hours. Duties include operating tractor trailers or straight trucks with a strong emphasis on safety, including performing pre and post-trip inspections consistent with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

Beyond just driving, the role requires meticulous attention to detail in paperwork handling, delivery verification, damage control, and customer interaction. Drivers must operate various pieces of equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates for loading and unloading product cases weighing between 10 and 90 pounds depending on the delivery location. They are expected to maintain cleanliness and security of vehicles and cargo throughout their shifts. Drivers also complete detailed logs in compliance with federal and state regulations, ensuring legal and safety standards are upheld at all times. Job Requirements

  • Valid CDL A
  • 12 months commercial driving experience
  • High school diploma/GED or state approved equivalent
  • Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift

Job Duties

  • Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner
  • Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company
  • Performs all required safety checks (i.e., pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
  • Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
  • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Checks and completes required paperwork accurately and legibly
  • Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unloads products from the trailer, transports items into designated customer storage areas
  • Performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
  • Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures
  • Collects money (cash or checks) where required
  • Loads customer returns on to trailer and secures trailer doors
  • Ensures that tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or always secured
  • Unloads damaged goods and customer returns and completes necessary paperwork
  • Completes daily record of hours of service and enters in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keeps trailers clear and clean
  • Secures all equipment and completes necessary paperwork at the end of the shift
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
