Job Description
Performance Foodservice, the broadline distributor of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading company in the foodservice distribution industry that plays a vital role in supporting a wide range of local customers. Their clientele includes independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company is distinct in the market because of its highly personalized approach. Their team is composed of skilled sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other experts who work closely with customers to provide advice on operational improvements, menu development, product selections, and business strategies. At the core of Performance Foodservice’s mission is not only the delivery of high-quality food products but also offering valuable support to independent restaurant owners and foodservice businesses, helping them realize and achieve their entrepreneurial dreams and operational goals.
The role being offered is that of a CDL-A Driver, fundamental in the nation's food supply chain. This job is not just about driving; it encompasses essential responsibilities that ensure the efficient and safe delivery of food and food service products. The CDL-A Driver operates tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes, as well as drive and drop schedules. The position demands a commitment to adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations while ensuring that customer orders arrive on time and in excellent condition.
The company offers an attractive average annual salary ranging between $80,000 to $90,000, with pay reflective of the route and driving schedule. Additionally, there is the possibility of a sign-on bonus of up to $10,000, which depends on the extent of verifiable foodservice delivery experience. Work schedules are Monday through Saturday with alternating Saturdays off, and dispatch times vary early in the morning, from 12:30 am to 5:30 am. Routes typically last between 10 and 12 hours.
Besides competitive pay, Performance Foodservice provides comprehensive benefits that include day one health and wellness coverage, an employee stock purchase plan, employer matching on 401K retirement contributions, education assistance programs, paid time off, and numerous other perks. Importantly, the company fosters a safe, inclusive, and rewarding work environment characterized by respect and recognition.
This role is ideal for individuals who are professional, safety-conscious, and dedicated to building lasting customer relationships. Drivers represent the face of the company and are expected to maintain product integrity from loading through delivery. Typical responsibilities include conducting pre- and post-trip safety inspections, completing all required safety and delivery records, safely securing freight, interacting professionally with customers and team members, handling cash and checks as needed, and maintaining clean and secure equipment and trailers.
Performance Foodservice is an equal opportunity employer that embraces diversity and inclusion. They ensure fairness regardless of race, color, sex, national origin, veteran status, disability, or other protected characteristics. Overall, this CDL-A Driver position offers a significant opportunity for those seeking to contribute to America’s vital food distribution system while enjoying strong compensation, job stability, and opportunities for growth within a supportive company culture.
