The CDL-A Driver position at Performance Foodservice plays a vital role in America’s food supply chain. This role is integral to ensuring that food and food-related products are delivered safely, timely, and in excellent condition to various customers. The driver serves as the company’s frontline representative, building lasting relationships with customers through professional interactions. This role involves operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on a variety of routes including intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop assignments. The CDL-A driver must adhere strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, conduct comprehensive pre- and post-trip inspections, and maintain accurate records in compliance with regulatory standards.

Drivers are responsible for verifying freight load security, conducting accurate product counts against customer invoices, and managing the safe unloading of damaged goods and returns. The role requires proficiency with equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates to handle freight often weighing between 60 to 90 pounds. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday with dispatch times between 3 to 5 am, offering earning potential upwards of $90,000 annually. Job Requirements

  • Must have a valid CDL-A license
  • 1 year commercial driving experience
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Pass pre-employment drug test
  • Ability to secure DOT Medical Card
  • Meet FMCSA Clearinghouse requirements
  • Able to hand-lift up to 90 pounds
  • Able to work early morning dispatch hours Monday through Friday
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English

Job Qualifications

  • 1 year commercial driving experience
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Meets PFG Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) requirements for past 3 years
  • Pass pre-employment drug test
  • Meet PFG FMCSA Clearinghouse requirements
  • Pass road test
  • Able to secure new DOT Medical Card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate, and/or other equipment to move or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight
  • Must be able to work the assigned schedule
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • English language proficiency is required

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Perform count check of items and verify customer invoices for loaded products
  • Ensure tractor, trailer and freight are appropriately locked and secured at all times
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary end-of-shift paperwork
  • Comply with daily record-keeping and hours of service requirements adhering to DOT, state, and company policies
  • Uphold overall safety standards and follow guidelines for proper handling of freight throughout the delivery process
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Comply with all company policies and standards
