Job Description
Sysco Corporation is the global leader in foodservice distribution, operating approximately 333 distribution facilities worldwide and serving more than 700,000 customer locations. With a workforce of over 71,000 colleagues and a fleet of more than 13,000 vehicles, Sysco is dedicated to delivering the highest quality food products and services to its customers. The company emphasizes personal and professional growth for its employees and fosters an environment of teamwork and excellence. Sysco's subsidiary, SYGMA, specializes in providing top-tier delivery services, helping clients manage their foodservice supply needs efficiently and reliably.
The SYGMA Columbus Team is currently seeking dedicated Delivery Drivers to join their ranks. This role offers the opportunity to earn a competitive salary ranging from $10.00 to $48.00 per hour, with first-year drivers averaging annual earnings between $95,000 and $110,000, and top performers earning up to $130,000. Employees may also be eligible to participate in the company’s Incentive Plan. This position is ideal for individuals seeking stability, a career path, and a place where their contributions are valued and rewarded.
As a Delivery Driver, your primary responsibility will be to serve customers by safely and efficiently transporting products from the warehouse to various customer locations using a tractor trailer. You will be responsible for properly delivering and unloading products according to customer invoices and company standards. Paid training is provided to ensure drivers are well-prepared to perform their duties safely and effectively.
The role requires managing 2-4 routes per week, with most routes lasting no longer than 24 hours. Delivery Drivers at SYGMA work Sunday through Friday with evening dispatch, allowing for a balanced schedule. Equipment is well-maintained and fully automatic, promoting ease of operation and safety. Drivers must follow all regulatory guidelines, including DOT regulations and Hazmat requirements.
Key responsibilities include unloading products using hand carts, handling product damages and customer returns, completing paperwork accurately, and ensuring food safety protocols are met to maintain product quality and prevent contamination. Drivers are expected to establish excellent customer relationships through courteous and clear communication while adhering to company policies regarding vehicle maintenance and safety. The work environment involves exposure to various weather conditions, occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds manually and up to 350 pounds with equipment), and variable work hours including weekends, holidays, and potential overtime.
Sysco is committed to providing a comprehensive benefits package that supports the well-being of its employees. Benefits include paid holidays, medical, dental and vision insurance, 401k with company stock purchase plans, and weekly paid compensation. The company values equal opportunity and affirms its commitment to diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Sysco makes reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to enable them to perform their job duties effectively.
This position requires a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License, the ability to communicate effectively in English, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Prior tractor-trailer driving experience or completion of a driving school program is preferred. Physical demands are significant, requiring the ability to perform lifting, bending, climbing, and operating equipment safely. Sysco is an excellent choice for proactive, safety-minded individuals seeking a stable, rewarding career in the foodservice distribution industry.
