The CDL-A Driver position at Performance Foodservice is vital to the national food supply chain. Delivery drivers ensure that food and food-related products are transported safely and punctually to customers, often acting as the company’s frontline representatives who build long-lasting customer relationships. The CDL-A Driver operates tractor trailers or straight trucks on various types of routes, including intrastate and interstate deliveries, local routes, over-the-road (OTR) duties, shuttles, overnight runs, and drive-and-drop tasks. Drivers are responsible for adhering strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, company policies, and safety standards throughout the delivery process.
Key responsibilities include conducting thorough safety inspections before and after trips, communicating professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers, maintaining accurate and legible paperwork, delivering products on schedule, and ensuring freight is properly loaded, secured, unloaded, and documented. Drivers also handle financial transactions such as collecting payments and managing customer returns, while maintaining security of the tractor, trailer, and cargo.
In addition to driving duties, CDL-A Drivers assist with loading docks, perform damage control checks on products, and ensure cleanliness and order in their equipment and work areas.
