The position available is for an entry-level Driver Trainee role within Performance Foodservice. This role is vital to supporting America’s food distribution system by ensuring timely and safe delivery of various food and related products. The Driver Trainee will gain hands-on experience driving tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate or interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. Working 4 to 5 days a week from early morning until the completion of duties, the trainee will be trained under the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, focusing on safety, compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and excellent customer service. The average pay rate after training exceeds $1,600 per week, plus a $2,500 sign-on bonus subject to eligibility.

Beyond driving, the role involves responsibilities such as conducting thorough vehicle safety inspections, assisting in loading and unloading deliveries, managing delivery paperwork and customer interactions, and maintaining a safe and clean work environment. Job Requirements

  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • pass post offer drug test
  • pass road test
  • attain or have valid current DOT Health Card
  • able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight
  • product generally ranges from approximately 60 to 90 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
  • 6+ months commercial driving experience
  • valid CDL A
  • must be 21 years of age
  • meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable

Job Duties

  • Attend and successfully complete PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program
  • Ride with and assist driver trainer in executing deliveries as required
  • Perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Perform count check of items and validate customer invoices
  • Deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unload products, perform damage control checks, verify delivery with customer signatures, and collect payments where required
  • Ensure tractor, trailer and freight are appropriately secured at all times
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns, complete necessary paperwork
  • Complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log per Federal DOT requirements
  • Perform housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and secure all equipment at shift end
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
