Job Description
Performance Foodservice is a leading broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), specializing in delivering quality food and food-related products to an extensive network of local customers such as independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a dedicated team comprising sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts, Performance Foodservice strives to build meaningful and lasting relationships with its customers. This collaborative approach allows the company to provide valuable advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and other operational strategies, ultimately supporting the growth and success of independent restaurant owners and operators nationwide.
Joining Performance Foodservice means becoming part of a company that values inclusivity, safety, and employee growth. The company offers a competitive salary package, including an average pay rate of $1,600 per week after training and a $2,500 sign-on bonus, subject to certain eligibility terms. Alongside financial benefits, employees gain access to a suite of wellness benefits from day one, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance programs, paid time off, and more, fostering a supportive environment where team members can grow their careers while contributing to America’s essential food distribution system.
The position available is an entry-level driver trainee role, a fantastic opportunity for individuals looking to develop their driving skills specializing in tractor trailers or straight trucks. This role involves training through the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, designed to equip candidates with the necessary skills and certifications to safely and efficiently manage both intrastate and interstate freight deliveries. The role offers comprehensive hands-on experience on local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes, ensuring trainees learn industry-standard safety protocols, customer service excellence, and regulatory compliance.
As a Driver Trainee, you will be riding with and assisting a driver trainer, observing and learning the procedures for conducting deliveries, performing pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections in line with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and maintaining safety standards critical to the transportation industry. The role also requires diligent record-keeping of hours of service, handling delivery documentation accurately, and ensuring freight is correctly loaded, secured, and delivered. Interpersonal skills are vital, as you will communicate professionally with customers, co-workers, and vendors, which contributes to upholding the company’s high standards of service and safety.
This position works on a schedule of 4 to 5 days per week, Monday through Saturday, starting early in the morning until the work is completed, making it suitable for candidates prepared for flexible and possibly extended hours. Due to its responsibilities and regulatory requirements, candidates must be at least 21 years old, possess a valid CDL Class A license, and meet specific health and safety standards including passing post-offer drug tests, holding a clean Motor Vehicle Record for the past 3 years, and maintaining current DOT health certification.
Performance Foodservice prides itself on its safe and inclusive working environment that encourages respect, recognition, and reward among its team, which reflects in the positive company culture and employee satisfaction. This role is an excellent gateway for individuals seeking a stable and rewarding career in the transportation and food distribution sector, providing essential services that support America’s food supply chain. By joining, trainees gain exposure to operational excellence, safety compliance, and career advancement within a company committed to fostering long-term employee success and wellbeing.
