The CDL-A Delivery Driver position at Vistar plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless distribution of food and food-service products throughout the country’s supply chain. This full-time role primarily follows a Monday through Friday schedule, with limited regional overnight routes as needed. Drivers operate newer equipment featuring liftgate trailers and electric pallet jacks, enabling 80% of deliveries to be efficient drop-and-go pallet deliveries. The starting pay rate is $30.90 per hour, with additional safety bonuses awarded quarterly to incentivize and reward safe driving practices.

The CDL-A Driver is responsible not only for the timely and safe delivery of goods but also serves as the face of Vistar, building lasting relationships with customers through professional interaction and exceptional service. This role requires adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies, driving tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes including local, over-the-road, shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop deliveries.

Key responsibilities include conducting pre- and post-trip safety checks, performing thorough inspections of the vehicle and freight, securing and unlocking trailers and shipments, accurately completing paperwork, and maintaining compliance with hours of service and record-keeping requirements. The CDL-A Delivery Driver must uphold Vistar’s high safety standards, effectively handle all freight, including unloading damaged goods and returns, and contribute to a safe and inclusive workplace culture.

This role requires physically lifting and maneuvering freight of varying weights, typically ranging from 10 to 90 pounds, and usage of equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates to move products. Drivers must maintain a clean motor vehicle record, pass drug and background checks, comply with DOT licensing and health card requirements, and demonstrate proficiency in road testing. Job Requirements

  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Minimum 6 months commercial driving experience
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Clean motor vehicle record for the past 3 years
  • Ability to pass drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Ability to obtain or possess current DOT health card
  • Ability to lift and move freight weighing between 10 and 90 pounds
  • Meet state licensing and certification requirements

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • 6 or 12 plus months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A
  • Must be 21 or older
  • Meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or have valid current DOT health card or able to secure new DOT health card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and other equipment to move and stack product cases/freight

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety check including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight and perform count checks
  • Ensure that tractor, trailer and freight are locked and secured at all times
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork
  • Comply with daily record-keeping and hours of service requirements
  • Uphold overall safety standards and follow guidelines for proper handling of freight
