The CDL-A Driver position at Performance Foodservice is vital to the company’s commitment to reliable and timely deliveries. This role involves operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, overnight, and drive and drop routes. The driver is responsible for delivering and unloading food and related products safely and in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Beyond driving, the CDL-A Driver is the face of the company, responsible for fostering positive customer relationships by ensuring professionalism, accuracy, and courteous communication during deliveries. These drivers support the smooth operation of the company’s distribution services by completing thorough safety inspections, managing delivery documentation, loading and unloading freight, and adhering to all established safety and compliance standards.

Key features of the position include early morning dispatch hours between 3 am and 5 am on select weekdays with the benefit of returning home daily. The role offers a competitive annual salary averaging $73,000 or more, plus a $10,000 sign-on bonus (terms apply). Job Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • At least 6 months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Minimum age of 21 years
  • Compliance with all state licensing and certification requirements
  • Clean motor vehicle record for the past 3 years
  • Successful post-offer drug and background screening
  • Passing road test
  • Ability to obtain or possess a current DOT health card
  • Physical ability to lift and maneuver freight weighing between 10 to 90 pounds using appropriate equipment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • 6+ months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A
  • Must be 21+ years of age
  • Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or have valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift

Job Duties

  • Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors, and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner
  • Functions as a team member within the department and organization as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company
  • Performs all required safety checks including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
  • Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
  • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Immediately reports all safety hazards and inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Performs count check of items and checks customer invoices of products that have been loaded
  • Checks and completes in an accurate and legible fashion all required paperwork associated with freight
  • Moves tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unloads products from the trailer, transports items into designated customer storage areas
  • Performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
  • Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures
  • Collects money (cash or checks) where required and secures trailer doors
  • Ensures tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and always secured
  • Unloads damaged goods and customer returns and completes necessary paperwork
  • Completes daily record of hours of service and enters in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keeps trailers clear and clean
  • Secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork at the end of the shift
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
