Job Description

Performance Foodservice, a leading broadline distributor within Performance Food Group (PFG), specializes in delivering high-quality food and related products to a diverse range of customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts, the company not only supplies food products but also offers valuable advice on operational improvements, menu development, product selection, and overall business strategies. This comprehensive approach allows Performance Foodservice to build strong, lasting relationships with their clients, helping independent restaurant owners and foodservice providers thrive in a competitive market. The company's commitment to quality, service, and customer success establishes it as a vital partner in the food distribution industry.

The role of Food and Food Service Delivery Driver at Performance Foodservice is an essential position within the company’s supply chain operations. Delivery drivers act as the face of the company, being responsible not just for timely and safe delivery of products but also for fostering positive customer relationships through professional communication and reliable service. These drivers operate tractor trailers or straight trucks within intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop assignments. Responsibilities include transporting food and food-related products from distribution centers directly to customers’ locations, ensuring that products arrive in excellent condition and according to scheduled delivery times.

One of the highlights of this position is the earning potential, with salaries exceeding $100,000 annually. The role offers a well-structured schedule primarily from Monday to Friday, with average dispatch times between 3 to 5 am and occasional weekend shifts. From day one, employees benefit from comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, alongside other benefits like employee stock purchase plans, 401(k) employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off. The company fosters a safe and inclusive working environment characterized by a culture of rewards, recognition, and respect. This position also offers growth opportunities, allowing motivated drivers to expand their skills and advance within the company.

The daily duties of the delivery driver emphasize safety compliance, vehicle inspections, and maintaining DOT regulations. Drivers are responsible for performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure their vehicles meet both company and federal standards, reporting any safety concerns or repairs needed immediately. They also accurately document freight details, verify deliveries with customers, collect payments when necessary, and manage the loading and unloading of freight, making use of equipment such as lift gates and two-wheelers. Attention to detail is crucial for ensuring products are loaded and secured correctly and for handling damaged goods or customer returns according to company policy.

This role demands physical stamina and the ability to handle loads varying between approximately 10 to 90 pounds, depending on the location and shipment. The company’s commitment to safety, professionalism, and excellent customer service positions this role as a pivotal contributor to the successful operation of America’s food distribution network.
