Job Description

Performance Foodservice, commonly known as PFG, is a leading broadline distributor specializing in foodservice solutions. The company proudly serves a diverse client base, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and quick-service eateries. PFG is renowned for fostering close, personalized relationships with its customers through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts. Their collaborative approach extends well beyond delivering quality food products; they work hand-in-hand with clients to optimize operations, enhance menu development, refine product selections, and improve overall business strategies. PFG stands out as a valued partner in America’s foodservice industry by supporting independent restaurant owners and other foodservice providers in achieving lasting success.

This particular job opening is for a CDL-A Driver position, which is critical to maintaining the efficiency and reliability of the food supply chain. The role involves driving tractor trailers or straight trucks within intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight drive-and-drop assignments. These drivers are entrusted with timely delivery and unloading of food and related products, ensuring that shipments arrive safely and in excellent condition. Beyond just transportation, these drivers play an essential role as the face of PFG to customers, delivering exemplary service by establishing lasting customer relationships.

The position offers a Monday through Friday workweek with dispatch times between 3-5 a.m., which provides a structured schedule for work-life balance. Drivers have the opportunity to earn upwards of $90,000 per year, reflecting the company’s competitive compensation model designed to attract skilled professionals. PFG deeply values employee well-being and offers comprehensive benefits from day one, including health and wellness programs, an employee stock purchase plan, 401(k) employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off, among others.

In this role, CDL-A Drivers are responsible for adhering fully to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies to guarantee safety and compliance at all times. They conduct thorough safety inspections before and after trips, check freight security, verify proper loading, complete necessary paperwork accurately, and report any safety or mechanical concerns immediately. Additionally, they handle the unloading of damaged goods and customer returns following strict protocol to maintain product integrity.

The ideal candidate is expected to possess at least one year of commercial driving experience and meet all state licensing requirements relevant to the role. Drivers must be at least 21 years old, able to pass road tests and drug screenings, secure a DOT medical card, and comply with industry regulations including those governed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Physical capability is important, as the role involves hand-lifting moderately heavy product cases using equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates.

Performance Foodservice prioritizes a safe, inclusive, and respectful work environment fostering a culture of recognition and reward. By joining PFG as a CDL-A Driver, individuals become an integral part of a significant operation dedicated to supporting America’s food distribution system while benefiting from professional growth opportunities and the stability of a reputable company committed to equal employment opportunities.
