With a strong commitment to delivering exceptional customer service, PFG's team comprises sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and operational experts who collaborate closely with clients to enhance their operations, develop menus, select the best products, and implement effective strategies. Beyond simply delivering quality food products, PFG aims to empower independent restaurant owners and other food service providers to realize their business dreams through comprehensive support and tailored solutions. The company fosters an inclusive, respectful, and safe work environment, emphasizing rewards and recognition for employees' contributions.
The CDL-A Driver role at Performance Food Group is a vital position within the company’s food supply chain operations. These drivers ensure the timely and safe delivery of food and food-related products to various customers while representing the company as its face on the road. The role involves driving tractor trailers or straight trucks locally, intrastate, interstate, and on over-the-road (OTR) routes, including shuttle and overnight trips. This position requires adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies to maintain the highest safety standards. The drivers are responsible not only for the transportation of goods but also for building lasting relationships with customers through professional communication and service.
Starting with a schedule that mandates work on Monday, Friday, and Saturday, with days off on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, the job requires dispatch hours between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM. The average annual salary for this role ranges from $90,000 to $95,000, reflecting the importance and responsibility attributed to this position.
Key responsibilities of the CDL-A Driver include conducting thorough safety inspections of tractors, trailers, and freight; reporting any safety hazards or repair needs; performing accurate inventory and paperwork checks; following predetermined delivery routes and schedules; unloading goods and placing them in designated areas; conducting damage control measures when needed; obtaining proper delivery confirmations; securing freight and equipment; and maintaining cleanliness and order in vehicles and working areas. Beyond these duties, drivers are expected to function as cohesive team members within the company, assisting with any tasks required to optimize operations.
Performance Food Group is proud to offer a competitive compensation package and comprehensive benefits from day one of employment, such as health and wellness benefits, access to an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and other incentives. This reflects the company’s commitment to fostering employee growth and satisfaction while maintaining a supportive and inclusive workplace culture. Furthermore, the company champions equal employment opportunities and strictly adheres to nondiscrimination policies that promote diversity and respect among its workforce.
Ultimately, the CDL-A Driver position at Performance Food Group offers more than just a job — it provides an opportunity to play an essential role in sustaining America’s food distribution system, build meaningful customer relations, and grow within a reputable and forward-thinking organization.
