Job Description
Performance Foodservice, the broadline distributor of Performance Food Group (PFG), operates at the forefront of the food distribution industry, catering to a diverse range of local customers. These include independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries, showcasing a strong commitment to serving varied market segments with excellence. The company prides itself on building close, lasting relationships with its clients through a dedicated team of professionals, including sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other experts. This team offers valuable advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and operational strategies, thereby going beyond mere delivery to support the success and growth of independent restaurant owners and other foodservice providers.
As an essential player in America’s food supply chain, Performance Foodservice emphasizes not only the delivery of delicious and quality food products but also the importance of reliability and customer satisfaction. The organization offers a safe and inclusive work environment, enriched by a culture of rewards, recognition, and respect. Employees benefit from competitive pay, health and wellness benefits from day one, an employee stock purchase plan, employer-matched 401(k), education assistance, paid time off, and ample growth opportunities to advance within the company.
The CDL-A Driver plays a vital role within this dynamic company, responsible for the safe and timely delivery of food and related products across both intrastate and interstate routes. This includes operating tractor-trailers and straight trucks on local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes. The role demands a high degree of professionalism as drivers are often the face of the company, building strong relationships with customers through consistent and courteous service. Drivers are expected to follow strict Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations while performing thorough pre- and post-trip safety inspections and ensuring all freight is securely loaded and unloaded according to company and safety standards.
This position operates on a demanding schedule with mandatory workdays on Monday, Friday, and Saturday, and flexible days off including Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Dispatch hours typically start between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM, and a six-day workweek may occasionally be required to meet business needs. The annual salary ranges competitively between $90,000 and $95,000, reflecting the critical nature of the role. Responsibilities extend beyond driving to include logistical coordination such as maintaining accurate paperwork, performing damage control checks, securing freight and equipment, and completing mandatory hours-of-service logs in accordance with federal and state regulations. This comprehensive level of responsibility underscores the company’s commitment to safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction at every delivery point.
In summary, working as a CDL-A Driver at Performance Foodservice means becoming an integral part of a trusted team that supports America’s food service industry. It offers a rewarding career path with extensive benefits, a supportive work culture, and opportunities for advancement, catering to dedicated professionals committed to excellence in food distribution.
