Job Description

Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline foodservice distributor in the United States. Performance Foodservice is currently seeking a CDL-A Driver to join their dynamic team. This position offers competitive compensation starting at $393 or more per day with bi-weekly pay. Employees work Monday through Friday during day shifts and enjoy the benefit of returning home daily. The CDL-A Driver plays a critical role in America’s food supply chain, ensuring that food and related products are delivered safely, efficiently, and on time to various customers. As the face of the company, the driver is also responsible for building and maintaining strong, lasting relationships with customers, vendors, and colleagues.

The CDL-A Driver will be tasked with driving tractor-trailers or straight trucks on local, intrastate, interstate, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes. This role requires strict adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies. Key duties include performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, ensuring that freight is properly loaded and secured, conducting damage control checks on delivered items, and accurately completing all required paperwork and logs. Additionally, drivers are responsible for communicating professionally and effectively with customers to verify deliveries and collect payments when required.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 12 plus months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Must be 21 plus years of age
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or have valid current DOT health card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner
  • Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company
  • Performs all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
  • Inspects tractor/truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and takes appropriate action as needed
  • Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
  • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Immediately reports all safety hazards
  • Inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Performs count check of items and checks customer invoices of products that have been loaded
  • Checks and completes in an accurate and legible fashion all required paperwork associated with freight
  • Moves tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unloads products from the trailer, transports items into designated customer storage areas
  • Performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
  • Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures
  • Collects money where required
  • Loads customer returns onto trailer and secures trailer doors
  • Ensures that tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or always secured
  • Unloads damaged goods and customer returns and completes necessary paperwork
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keeps trailers clear and clean
  • Completes daily record of hours of service and enters logs in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork at the end of shift
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
