Job Description
Vistar is America’s leading candy, snack, and beverage distributor with a network of more than 25 distribution centers throughout the United States. The company delivers a wide variety of products ranging from popular snacks like popcorn to healthy meal replacements, serving customers in diverse settings where people work, play, and shop. With a strong focus on innovation, Vistar has established itself as a trusted partner in the food distribution industry. The company prides itself on a collaborative culture that emphasizes teamwork, ethical practices, and giving back to the communities it serves. Its dedication to exceeding customer expectations and fostering a respectful and inclusive working environment has contributed to its ongoing success and recognition within the industry.
The CDL-A Delivery Driver position at Vistar plays a vital role within the company’s food supply chain operations. These drivers are responsible not only for ensuring timely and safe delivery of food and food-related products to customers but also represent the company’s values by building and maintaining strong relationships with clients. The role involves driving tractor trailers or straight trucks across intrastate and interstate routes, which may include local deliveries, shuttle runs, and over-the-road transport. Drivers typically work a 4-5 day week with start times between 3-5 am and shifts ranging from 8 to 12 hours. The schedule generally avoids weekends and holidays, allowing for predictable work-life balance.
The CDL-A Delivery Driver’s primary duties include performing rigorous safety inspections both before and after trips, ensuring all equipment meets Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and adhering to company driving policies. Drivers load and unload products using electric jacks and lift gates, perform count checks against customer invoices, and maintain accurate paperwork. They interact professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers, providing needed information and resolving issues efficiently. Safety is paramount, requiring the reporting of any hazards or necessary repairs in a timely manner.
Vistar supports its CDL-A drivers with competitive pay commensurate with experience and offers numerous benefits such as safety bonuses quarterly and yearly, paid hotels on occasional overnight trips, per diem allowances, and phone stipends. Employees enjoy access to health and wellness benefits from day one, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K with employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off. The company cultivates a safe and inclusive environment where drivers are recognized and rewarded for their essential contributions to America’s food distribution system. Overall, this position offers substantial opportunity for growth, a supportive workplace culture, and an essential role in ensuring the nation’s food products reach their destination safely and efficiently.
