Job Description

Core-Mark, a subsidiary of Performance Food Group and part of a Fortune 150 company, is a leading distributor specializing in fresh and broad-line solutions tailored to the convenience retail industry. With a remarkable track record of empowering customers, employees, and communities, Core-Mark has built a substantial business reaching over 23 billion dollars in revenue across the United States and Canada. The company operates through multiple distribution centers that deliver an extensive range of products, programs, and innovative solutions to its diverse customer base. Core-Mark takes pride in fostering a safe, inclusive, and rewarding workplace culture. This culture emphasizes respect, recognition, employee wellness, and continuous growth opportunities, making it an attractive employer in the food distribution space.

The role of the Food and Food Service Delivery Driver at Core-Mark is pivotal in maintaining and enhancing the nation's food supply chain integrity. The drivers serve not just as transporters who ensure timely and secure delivery of customers' food products but also act as the human face of the company, fostering vital long-term relationships with customers. Drivers operate various types of vehicles including tractor-trailers and straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes that may include local deliveries, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop assignments. The position offers a competitive salary between $75,000 and $85,000 annually with pay structured per stop, load, and mile, which rewards diligence and efficiency. The work schedule typically spans Sunday through Thursday with a four-day working cycle plus one on-call day. Dispatch times vary by shift and are discussed in detail during the interview process.

Drivers are responsible for performing essential safety checks like pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure both the vehicle and freight comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and internal company safety standards. They must report any safety hazards immediately and follow company policies to maintain a secure and compliant transportation environment. Key duties include verifying load accuracy by counting items and cross-referencing invoices, practicing secure loading and unloading techniques, collecting payments when required, and handling returns appropriately. The role also involves performing damage assessments on shipments and communicating closely with supervisors to address any discrepancies.

Beyond operational responsibilities, drivers maintain a clean and orderly vehicle and work area, accurately complete paperwork, adhere to federal DOT log requirements on hours of service, and actively participate as team players within the department and the wider company. This comprehensive approach reflects Core-Mark’s commitment not only to customer satisfaction but also to employee engagement and compliance. Successful candidates bring at least six months of commercial driving experience, a CDL-A license, a clean motor vehicle record, and the ability to meet physical demands such as handling freight weighing up to 90 pounds. Passing pre-employment drug tests and background checks as well as possessing or securing a current DOT Health Card is mandatory. This role promises growth and meaningful employment supporting a vital American industry with a company known for its dedication to equity, respect, and opportunity.
