Job Description

Performance Foodservice (PFG) is a premier broadline foodservice distributor dedicated to supporting a diverse array of customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. PFG's approach is unique in that it combines the capabilities of its extensive sales team, chefs, consultants, and industry experts to build strong, personalized relationships with the customers it serves. This collaborative approach goes beyond merely delivering quality food products; PFG provides invaluable advice on various aspects such as improving operations, menu development, product selection, and operational strategies, ensuring their customers achieve sustained success and growth. The company prides itself on not just being a food distributor but a committed partner that helps independent restaurant owners and other clients realize their dreams in a competitive foodservice industry.

The role of a Food and Food Service Delivery Driver at Performance Foodservice is an essential one that plays a critical part in the country’s food supply chain. Delivery drivers serve as the direct representatives of the company, offering a critical service by ensuring that customers' food products and related items are transported safely, efficiently, and timely to their designated locations. This position involves driving tractor trailers or straight trucks on a mix of local, over-the-road, shuttle, and overnight routes, primarily local but occasionally involving 1-2 day layovers. Drivers may have dispatch hours early in the morning between 3am-5am from Monday through Friday.

The driver’s responsibility extends far beyond just driving. They are expected to perform all mandated safety inspections compliant with Department of Transportation regulations, ensuring each vehicle and trailer meet the company’s rigorous safety standards. They also maintain integrity in managing freight by performing checks on products, securing loads appropriately, and handling necessary paperwork accurately. The delivery route calls for a professional customer-interaction approach, where drivers communicate courteously and effectively with customers, vendors, and co-workers alike, thus fostering long-lasting relationships and embodying the company’s values. Handling deliveries also requires some manual labor, such as using equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates to move product cases and freight, which can range in weight from 10 to 90 pounds. Drivers need to be able to perform damage controls on the goods, manage order returns, and ensure the tractor-trailer is properly secured at the end of their shift.

Performance Foodservice emphasizes offering attractive compensation and benefits to its employees, with earning potential upwards of $90,000 per year for this position. Additionally, the company offers competitive pay alongside a comprehensive benefits package including day one health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and much more. The company fosters a safe and inclusive workplace culture characterized by respect, recognition, and rewards, encouraging employee growth and engagement within essential work sectors that sustain America’s food distribution framework.

For individuals who thrive in a dynamic, team-oriented environment and are motivated by delivering critical services that directly impact society’s food accessibility, this driver position represents a rewarding career opportunity. The company deeply values safety, professionalism, and customer service excellence, making this role crucial to maintaining operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. All drivers must meet stringent qualifications including possessing a valid CDL A license, passing safety and road tests, maintaining a clean driving record, and adhering to DOT health and safety regulations.
