Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a well-established broadline food distributor known for its dedicated service to a variety of local customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a reputation for quality and reliability, Performance Foodservice offers a unique blend of products and services tailored to help food service operators thrive. The company prides itself on building close relationships with customers through its team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts who provide valuable advice on operations, menu development, product selection, and overall operational strategies. This emphasis on customer support and innovation places Performance Foodservice as a key player in the food distribution industry, helping independent restaurant owners and other clients achieve their goals and grow their businesses effectively.
The Driver Trainee role at Performance Foodservice is designed for individuals interested in beginning a career as a commercial driver, specifically in the trucking and distribution sector. This entry-level position provides comprehensive training through the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, equipping the trainee with the necessary skills and experience to safely operate tractor trailers or straight trucks for intrastate and interstate deliveries. Trainees will learn to handle local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes and are responsible for delivering and unloading food and food-related products to various customers.
The position offers competitive pay, including an average weekly pay rate of $1,600 after training and a $2,500 sign-on bonus (terms apply). The work schedule ranges from 4 to 5 days per week, typically Monday through Saturday, with early morning start times extending until the job is completed. This role is not only about delivering goods but also about ensuring customer satisfaction by interacting professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers while following all company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Performance Foodservice fosters a safe and inclusive working environment that values rewards, recognition, and respect, creating a positive workplace for all employees. The company also offers a range of benefits from day one, including health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off. This role is fundamental to supporting America’s food distribution system and provides growth opportunities for trainees who demonstrate dedication and skill.
As a Driver Trainee, you will work closely with experienced driver trainers, participate in all required safety inspections, and ensure that the tractor, trailer, and cargo are secured and handled properly. You will also be responsible for accurate paperwork completion, adhering to DOT and company safety standards, and maintaining cleanliness and order in your work area. This role demands physical fitness, attention to detail, and a commitment to safe driving practices. The Driver Trainee is an essential member of the team, helping to uphold the company’s reputation for timely and reliable food delivery services.
