Job Description

Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group, stands as a leading broadline distributor serving a diverse clientele ranging from independent restaurants and hotels to healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on building close relationships with its customers through a dedicated team consisting of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts. These professionals provide invaluable advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and strategic operational decisions. Beyond merely delivering food, Performance Foodservice committedly supports independent restaurant owners in realizing their business aspirations by delivering quality products and personalized service. The company fosters an inclusive, respectful, and safe working environment where employees are recognized and rewarded for their contributions, reflective of its dedication to a culture of respect and collaboration.

The role of a Food and Food Service Delivery Driver at Performance Foodservice is integral to the nation’s food supply logistics. This full-time position typically involves a 4 to 5-day work week with required availability Monday through Saturday and dispatch times falling between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. Drivers can expect to earn an upwards of $90,000 per year, highlighting the competitive pay structure coupled with comprehensive benefits such as day-one health and wellness coverage, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off among others.

In this role, drivers function as essential connectors between suppliers and customers by ensuring timely and safe delivery of food products and related goods. Their primary responsibility is to operate tractor-trailers or straight trucks across intrastate and interstate routes, including local deliveries, some involving 1-2 day layovers, over-the-road (OTR) assignments, shuttles, and overnight drive-and-drop routes. The position demands not only physical endurance labeled by the company as seeking "industrial athletes," capable of handling product weights ranging typically from 10 to 35 pounds and up to approximately 60 to 90 pounds but also excellent interpersonal skills since drivers represent the face of the company during customer interactions.

A significant part of the job involves thorough safety inspections before and after trips to comply with Department of Transportation regulations, ensuring that trucks and trailers meet safety standards and reporting any issues or required repairs promptly. Drivers must also manage the accurate processing of freight-related paperwork, verify deliveries and obtain proper customer signatures, handle cash or check payments as required, secure trailers, and maintain cleanliness and organization of equipment and loading dock areas.

This position demands compliance with various regulatory requirements including holding a valid CDL A license, passing a road test, a clean motor vehicle report for the past three years, and a current or obtained DOT Health Card. Post-offer drug tests and criminal background checks are part of the hiring protocol to maintain the highest safety and compliance standards. Drivers are also expected to participate as operational team members, support their colleagues, and contribute to company objectives by performing any additional duties assigned.

Overall, the Food and Food Service Delivery Driver role at Performance Foodservice offers a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to America’s food distribution chain while enjoying a rewarding career supported by a company recognized for its equal employment opportunities and dedication to diversity and inclusion. The role is suited for individuals committed to safe driving practices, effective communication, customer service excellence, and physical stamina required to handle the demanding yet fulfilling nature of the job.
