Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a prominent broadline food distributor known for its strong relationships with a diverse range of local customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company’s team of dedicated professionals—including sales representatives, chefs, and consultants—works closely with clients to provide expert advice on operational improvements, menu development, product selection, and overall business strategy. Performance Foodservice is committed not only to delivering quality food products but also to supporting independent restaurant owners and other customers in achieving their goals and growing their businesses. This approach has propelled Performance Food Group to be a leader in the food distribution industry, fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and innovation.
The company offers competitive pay and outstanding benefits from day one, including health and wellness programs, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and generous paid time off, among others. The workplace culture emphasizes safety, inclusivity, respect, recognition, and reward to ensure every employee feels valued and motivated. Performance Foodservice operates in a dynamic environment where employees have ample opportunities for professional growth as they contribute essential services that support America’s complex food distribution system.
The Food and Food Service Delivery Driver role is critical to the success of this supply chain, responsible for driving tractor trailers or straight trucks to deliver food and food-related products safely and efficiently to customers across intrastate and interstate routes. Drivers maintain a visible, positive presence as the face of the company, engaging directly with customers to build and sustain strong relationships, ensuring products arrive on time and in excellent condition. This role requires strict adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies, conducting thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, and maintaining accurate records of hours of service and delivery documentation.
Drivers perform various tasks that include inspecting trailers for properly loaded and secured freight, conducting invoice and item count checks, completing required paperwork accurately, and securing trailers and freight against theft or damage. Additional duties involve unloading products and customer returns, performing damage control, collecting payments when necessary, cleaning and maintaining equipment and work areas, and documenting all activity per regulatory and company standards. The role calls for a team player approach who communicates professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers, supports departmental goals, and assists with any duties assigned to uphold the company’s commitment to exceptional service and safety.
This position is based at the new warehouse facility located at 8600 Springdale Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63134, with scheduled workdays from Monday to Friday and occasional Saturdays, typically involving early morning starts. A competitive sign-on bonus of $10,000 is offered to qualifying candidates who have not worked for a PFG company in the last six months. The company seeks responsible, safety-conscious individuals who have already attained a valid CDL A and meet state licensing and certification requirements. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, have a clean motor vehicle report for the past three years, pass a post-offer drug test, criminal background check and road test, and hold or be able to secure a current DOT Health Card.
Physical demands include the ability to hand-lift and operate equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates to move freight of varying weights, generally ranging between 10-35 pounds and up to 90 pounds depending on location, ensuring smooth handling of products throughout the shift. This career opportunity provides a stable and rewarding work environment for those dedicated to safe and reliable food service delivery, with potential for career advancement within a respected industry leader poised for continued growth and success.
